Despite the belly aching - OC/DC call good game

A lot of whining & complaining going on by us Bears fans that we now expect failure. But I for one was very happy to see that we finally have a OC that can make adjustments and has some creativity. In particular early in the 1st quarter he sets us up with 4 wide & Forte on the line as well. I'm thinking cool!!! Then out of that formation, Forte drops back and we run! GREAT!

And how refreshing is it to see that in our first game with a radically new offense that our OC didn't get out coached? That despite the bumbling fumbles, he still called a solid game, didnt get frustrated in his play calling and we put up the most yards for the weekend (463 tied w/Indy)? Nice start on that side of the ball.

On defense...Was anyone else happy to see that when we blitzed, our CBs played the WRs tight on the line? and generally played much tighter off the line that the last few years? I've been so sick of us calling blitzes in previous years but setting our corners 7 yards back and watch us get SLANTED TO DEATH- Madden 101 Lovie!!!! Maranelli at least got that righ and overall I thought he called a really good game - forgetting that it was his first ever as a DC. Other than the Prevent crap at the end, I thought he called a very aggressive and strong game.

THE DEFENSE GAVE UP 20 YARDS AGAINST THE RUN ON 21 ATTEMPTS. This was with the young speedster the Lions have high hopes for in there. Tell me its just the Lions & I'll tell you its still the FRICKIN NFL- Don't believe me - go look up what the hapless Lions did against us in the past.

And whatever they did to take Calvin Johnson out of the game for 3 1/2 quarters was brilliant - was this just Zack Bowman in the 1st half? I noticed CJ lining up away from Bowman in the 2nd half?

Its just one game, but it was a good start for both our new Coordinators IMO.

I agree. The complaining by the fans and the angry rants by the media is ridiculous. The Bears are 1-0. You can't get off to a better start than that. Cutler and Forte played well. The defense did its job. Yes, mistakes were made, but so did many other teams in week 1. I'd rather make mistakes and be 1-0, than be flawless and lose the game.

If not for Olsen and Forte's fumbles in the Lions' territory, you'd have to believe we would've at least got 6 points out of those possessions, maybe 10 or even 14 if we were lucky. If that's the case, the game isn't even close.

The Lions still aren't that good but we played pretty well. Cliff Levingston even thinks the Oline concerns are overblown. The time when Cutler got sacked, he was holding onto the ball for a long time. You can really only ask for 4 full seconds of protection, and after that, the ball needs to be out. The times when Cutler got in trouble, he had about that much time to get a throw off, so he either needs to bail and throw the ball away or find a guy to throw to.
