One of the big questions coming into training camp was what kind of help could materialize for the offensive line as the season got going.

The Chicago Bears made a hard push for Willie Colon before he opted to return to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and now that the team announced a two-year contract for center Chris Spencer, that could be it.

General manager Jerry Angelo, in explaining the decision to move on from 13-year veteran Olin Kreutz, made it sound like the Bears will not be pursuing more offensive linemen to add to the competitive mix.

“Hey, it’s tough,” Angelo said. “These offensive linemen are tough to find. We’ve got a good nucleus of young guys with traits that we look for but they’ve got to come together. We just can’t run up and down the starting line, get a guy with a few games under his belt with NFL experience and think that’s the answer.

"They’ve got to come together. We like our young players. We need to start developing our young players and how are you going to develop them if you don’t play them. And if you don’t play them, how do they know you believe in them? So, it’s a Catch-22.

“We brought in an experienced center that is still in the prime of his career. It’s the best we could do. That’s all we could do."

Angelo thinks the line is in bad enough shape that we'll offer Colon 5yr/$32m but now we're going to pretend the line is OK as-is and we're going to roll with what we have ?

we should at least add another Cowboy. Leonard Davis. That's the least they could do

Appears so.

Webb and Carimi at tackles, Garza and Chris Williams at guards and Spencer at center. Depth provided by Omiyale, Lance Louis and Edwin Williams. Am I missing anyone? I hope I am and he's really good.

Yikes.

Webb and Carimi could be pretty good, so hilariously enough, they're probably the ones to hold out the most hope for. Williams sucks balls, and from the sound of it, they'll run Garza at center and Spencer at guard due to wanting Garza's familiarity with the offense at the center spot. Probably doesn't make a difference.

Jay Cutler must be thrilled.

I think Lance Louis gets the starting spot at right guard this year and either Spencer or Garza at center & the other at LG. Carimi & Webb at RT & LT. Williams, Williams & Omilye backing up.

The line will be improved with 3 new starters from the end of last year. I'm a big fan of Webb

Yeah, I'm hearing Louis's name a lot as well. If we just hadn't screwed up in signing Omiyale and drafting Chris Williams we wouldn't be in this spot, would we ?

Chris Williams got knocked over consecutive times during the 2 on 2 drills today. This guy is an absolute failure at this point. Webb/Carimi should be solid. Garza should also be solid. Spencer is pretty much a younger version of Kreutz, so I don't know what to expect out of him. Stats say he's a better run blocker than Kreutz, but a worse pass blocker. Good god I do not want to see Chris Williams in that other guard spot. This guy is frustrating to no end.

Carimi at RT
Webb at LT
Spencer at C
Williams at LG
Louis at RG

Yeah, this is beginning to look like Stan Thomas redux (OT bust who was the Bears' first rounder in 1991). From franchise LT to "What the hell do we do with him?"

For whatever reason, the coaching staff seems high on Lance Louis and Edwin Williams. Guess that means we'll have Spencer at center, Carimi/Webb at tackle with Omiyale backing them up, then Garza/Louis or E. Williams with Louis/Williams backing up. Chris Williams may fall to the bottom of the pack as a guy who can back up all positions inadequately.

If Cliff Levingston is correct, as he often is, then Chris Williams may get cut. As a first round pick, his cap # is pretty hefty.

He couldn't cut it at tackle, so they moved him inside where we haven't heard anything good about him (nor seen anything good). It's probably time to accept the fact that he's a bust and cut ties. Then, in order to make up for his loss, bring in a guy who can play a little bit. A couple vets who probably still have a couple years of decent football left in the tank are G Leonard Davis and T Sean Locklear.

I would love Leonard Davis. But i can't understand why Angelo is saying they are done with the o line.

I'm hoping it's public posturing and he's still keeping an eye out for one more decent/good OL, as many have stated already they can really use one it seems.

Ndamukong Suh is. So is Kevin Williams. So is BJ Raji. Bad division in which to have a substandard OL.

Surprised the Bears haven't looked at Ryan Harris, but they probably cannot afford him.

Man, I want Harris pretty bad. Cutler knows him from Denver, and Harris is a beast. Davis and Nicks are still there also.

It's a smokescreen, no way Martz comes out today and states that the Bears could use a couple more OL. Michael Wright from ESPN was saying that they're still looking for OL.

they were close to acquire Ryan Harris last year i wouldn't be surprised if we bring him in.
