Is it actually this hard to assemble a team? A little over $30M in cap space at the start of free agency. Count about $10M to re-sign two stars on your team in Matt Forte and Chris Harris. That leaves $20M to fill the rest of your roster.

Braylon Edwards got a deal similar to Roy Williams. Spencer is getting paid severl million dollars a year to be a backup when you had pro bowlers like Brian Waters and Andre Gurode on the market. There are veterans availbale who have gone into retirement because no one wants them (Stinchcomb, O'Hara, Moss, etc) but they are all at positions that we desperately need upgrades in.

What is Jerry Angelo doing? We still have a lot of cap space that will basically be going to waste because he wanted to not re-sign his own stars, not sign pro-bowlers, not sign veterans who had very good season last year, but signed a bunch of washed up crap.

Braylon Edwards, Brian Waters, Andre Gurode are all players that got similar contracts to what we gave lesser players. Terrel Owens, Randy Moss, Jon Stinchcomb and Shaun O'Hara are all players that still played at an elite level but we know the Bears will not sign them. They can be had for bargain deals just like the crap that we actually signed this offseason!

TERRIBLE use of cap space. Does anyone know how much cap space we still have? I'm pretty sure it's well over $10M. I just hope we don't squander the final good years of our aging defense (Urlacher, Briggs, Tillman, Harris, Peppers are all over 30).

I think the cap space currently is $17-$19m. Yes, they could have done a lot this offseason. Braylon Edwards, Santonio Holmes, Steve Smith, Sidney Rice, Plaxico Burress, Steve Breaston are targets that I would have gone after long before going after Roy frikin Williams. Plaxico actually wanted to come her, but the Bears were already set at WR with Hester and Knox. What a joke. The problem is Angelo is the only one who thinks you don't need WR's to win games.

Angelo wrote:“It’s all about the quarterback... You don’t win because of wide
receivers. You don’t win because of running backs. You win because of
the quarterback.

That quote from Angelo explains why he traded Thomas Jones after the superbowl even though he was our best offensive player. And it explains why he didn't re-sign Forte. I'm very worried that we might not have Forte after this year. The Bears "reward their own players," but it seems that only applies on defense.

Angelo is a hard core defensive guy. Just look at where his Tampa Bay offenses ranked during his tenure there. Both those teams, and all his Bears teams have ranked near the bottom of the league offensively. He doesn't know the first thing about offense.

Not that it is an excuse for his ineptitude... but doesn't the leftover cap space get added to next years? This isn't the case every year, but I heard this was a special one-year thing to do with the lockout and whatever.

Yes, just for this season money left over will be added to the 2012 cap.
