Phil Emery is our new GM

Post#1 » by Chewie » Sat Jan 28, 2012 9:04 pm

Per ESPN.

Again - look at the last 3 years of KC drafts where Emery played a big part and the picks aren't pretty. You can talk all you want about the picks the Falcons made when he was there but what have you done for me lately? Hey - it ain't Angelo at least. Let's see what happens in FA and draft.

I was rooting for Jason Licht...

I'm not a fan of this move at all. We're in for another few years of sucking terribly.

If he makes the same personnel decisions that I made in our "Superbowl Game", then I'll be happy :D .

As long as he chases Mario with diamonds and proposal's I'm good.

What's KC's draft history like?

Charles, Bowe, Eric Berry to name a few no?

An expected underwhelming selection by the Bears. KC has not exactly lit the league up. He has Bears connections from the past , along with his familiarly with some the exiting scouts increased his chances.

I would have preferred Marc Ross , who could brought some new energy to the team. Especially coming from a team with multiple Superbowl trips. I would have chosen Licht also over him, whose team is also in the Superbowl, with muliple appearances also. I know they did not make the final decisions, but they did scout the talent was drafted.

Although, if he can bring Bowe along with him from KC that would show some potential promise.
A plea for post scoring is a plausible Bulls plan, but plainly isn't a priority. In response to a post player's dismay about his lack of points in the paint, Paxson said.... "I'm not nearly as concerned about the offensive stuff as he is."

He got there for the 2010 draft. So after Bowe and Charles.

heir's right - Emery was only there for the last 3 yrs so he had nothing to do with Charles and Bowe. Like I said, the Chiefs' drafts haven't been eye popping under Emery and he had a big say in draft strategy. In 2009 they picked DE Tyson Jackson with the #3 overall pick and he's been a huge bust. Aside from Eric Berry who made the pro bowl as a rookie in 2010 (and missed just about all of 2011), one might argue their best pick in the last 3 years was K Ryan Succop, the Mr. Irrelevant for 2009.

But, hey, don't take my word for it. By all means, look at the picks and you tell me what names stick out:

Like it was stated before, he can probably bring Bowe or Carr if that's the direction the Bears feel is warranted.

Moeki was on his way to becoming one of the better TEs in football before his preseason injury, Berry, while it seems obvious, was a risk because Safeties don't normally warrant such a high selection and Baldwin is a guy that can flat out play, he is just a bird brain.

I'm ok with it, but obviously we will know what kind of GM he really is when FA hits and how aggressive he will approach it.

I'll wait and see what he can do with the Bears, I just didn't like what I saw the Chiefs do while he was there. I don't think Bowe or Carr really cares that Emery is our GM. They'll go where the money takes them first and foremost.

I'm not terribly excited about it, but I think it's moot. Bowe will be tagged and Carr might get paid a good sum by the Chiefs.

The Chiefs have a problem on their hands because they can only Franchise one player. They have to choose to use the Franchise tag on either Dwayne Bowe or Brandon Carr.

I have a feeling that Carr will be their choice. That leaves a gift-wrapped Bowe for us.

If he can bring Bowe or Carr with him i'm 100% behind him.

He wouldn't of been my first choice but lets see how things go.

They can only franchise one but there's nothing stopping them from franchising one and signing the other or just flat out signing both to long term deals.

I tend to think Bowe will be their franchise choice but I'll take either.

This is their problem:

The moment that they franchise one of those guys (every team uses the franchise tag to stall for a year or two before they commit long-term money), the other guy will be bombarded with big money offers from other teams. Now, it's possible that KC is their preferred location, but I see the chance for Bowe to play with Cutler or Carr having the chance to play with Peppers & Urlacher too enticing to those players. Especially if they're making the same or more than what KC offered.

They'll franchise Bowe and go long-term with Carr now. Carr's tag would be more than Bowe's.

This may happen, but my point was that the door will be open for another team to offer a long-term contract to whoever doesn't get franchised, as well. The franchise tag prevents another team from offering a contract to one of their players, but the other player will not be protected.
