As it stands now, they sort of HAVE to go WR in the first round.

Your wide receivers are:

Marshall: Your #1, but will he be suspended for this latest altercation?
Knox: Big ?
Bennett: Should be a #3, borderline #2
Hester: Most signs pointed to him being a full-time returner again
Sanzy: #3/#4 wide receiver, at best.

I think they could still use a solid #2 guy. Looking at the list of FA's, the big guys are already gone.

Lloyd, Manningham, Robinson, Burress, Edwards remain.

Stat-wise, Laurent Robinson had a pretty good year (<900 yards, but 11 TDs), and he's only 26. Lloyd is 30, but has had a solid resurgence. I'd be comfortable with either as our #2.

I don't mind him having big ****, but I want Hester to retire here. Maybe restructure his contract, but please don't trade him.

So you need to spend first round picks to get solid #2 WRs now? Wow.

Whether Marshall is suspended or not, we didn't trade for him so he can play this year only. We still have a porous O line that needs to be addressed, and with FA money going into WR and presumably DE, the 1st round pick would probably be best spent on grabbing another cornerstone of the offensive line. Hopefully Carimi can turn into the stud RT we hope he can. If the plan is to kick Chris Williams to LT, at #19, we could probably grab a stud guard.

Don't get me wrong, if there's a much better Lineman (O or D) there at 19 vs. what is there at WR, I agree to go with the Lineman. But if it is a toss-up, I'd go with the WR.

Hmmm. Always saw the #2 QB as a vet position and the #3 QB as a better spot to take a chance on a young guy to work his way up the ranks. I suppose we can still use the practice squad for that purpose, though.

Exactly. I think the Bears got burned so badly last year that the last thing they want to worry about is scrapping for a QB. Most of all though, I think the Bears are focused 100% on Cutler and don't see now as the time to be spending their time nurturing his replacement.

I, and I'm sure plenty of other fellow Bears fans, were expecting/hoping that the Bears would spend some FA money on a star WR this off-season. However, after landing exactly that in Marshall in a trade and adding Weems as well, that gives us much more freedom with what to spend our money on. I'd love to see us draft another WR or two, as well as looking seriously at the OL. If we can do that in the draft, and then add to the DL with a guy like Mario Williams, without losing anyone too important, I would be rediculously, deliriously happy with our off-season moves.

If they can pry Williams from Buffalo, I'd be pretty impressed. If they can get Freeney for cheap, that would be a nice consolation prize. If they get neither, I'd like to see them bring in Laurent Robinson as our #2, or maybe the tackle from San Diego to shore up the line.

I put this in this thread because of his connection to our team & fans.

Not to mention, it's gonna screw up Chewie's selection in our Superbowl Game :naaa: .

I think Cutler + Marshall + Royal with Forte in the back field makes us one of the best teams at the skill positions on offense on paper. If we can make that offensive line solid, we are looking at something special here on offense. The only year Cutler, Royal, and Marshall together produced:

Cutler: 4,526 yards, 25 tds, 17 ints
Marshall: 104 receptions, 1,265 yards, 6 tds
Royal: 91 receptions, 980 yards, 5 tds

Those are ridiculous numbers. That is like having a #1 option and a #1a option at the same time.
