Brandon Marshall punches woman at nightclub on Sunday

Post#1 » by LobosJordan » Wed Mar 14, 2012 1:17 pm

Allegedly. Apparently it was on accident. I don't think he will get suspended or disciplined. If it was all an accident. Plus Goodell probably knows that Marshall will be on his best behavior now that he is with his best friend Cutler again. Why try to mess with his happiness and make him more angry. Even if he does miss a couple of games, highly unlikely, this is still a wonderful trade because the Bears can survive without him for 2 games.

People might not know that it was in that thread because of the title. I think it is very appropriate to start a new thread on this subject. Because it is worthy enough to have two different articles on ESPN and every other news source. One thread is dedicated to discussing the trade and one is dedicated about his incident. Do you really expect people to look at page seven of the Brandon Marshall trade thread to find out about this story? This is all about convenience my friend not a slight on the other thread.

This is the Brandon Marshall and it's what we get for getting such a voilatile individual.

I fully expect him to get suspended, but his contract has stipulations if he does so the Bears won't have to pay him his full contract. I'm not ok with Marshall acting like a fool, but I'm ok with taking a risk on him.

LobosJordan, what are your other thoughts on the incident?

The following is what Icness is reporting on this issue on the NFL GB:

Icness wrote:According to Hub Arkush of PFW if Marshall is found guilty of violating his personal conduct clause in his contract the minimum suspension is 6 games. Because of his history he coudl get a full year. He can be found guilty of that even if not found guilty in a court of law...ask Big Ben.

I don't think he will be found guilty in court with the current information out there right now. It sounds like he was protecting his wife who got hit in the face with a bottle and was hospitalized. But if circumstances change it wouldnt matter to me. This is a trade the Bears make 10 times out of 10. If anything it sounds like a settlement will be reached and he wouldn't be tried at all. 6 games is really nothing in the NFL, a year??? LOL really? There is no chance in hell Marshall would be suspended for a full season for this. The precedent would be too ridiculous.

This is a trade they prob make 0 times out of 10 if they knew beforehand he had a good chance of being suspended 6 games up to a year due to the incident. Can only hope the front office talked to the league before making the trade about the chances of this happening given the circumstances....

If the bi-polar stuff is going to be an issue we need to cover ourselves and still look @ WR early in the draft. His wife might be getting that old stabby feeling again.

I will give any man a complete pass if they are protecting their wife and/or kids, but if that's not the case he'll probably serve some type of punishment.

I'm with you. I would still make the trade. The Bears also agree:

In a statement, Bears general manager Phil Emery said the team was aware of the alleged incident when it obtained Marshall from the Miami Dolphins.

"Both the Bears and Dolphins were aware of what occurred over the weekend. We decided to move forward with the trade. We have high expectations for Brandon as a Bear," Emery said.

I still have no idea where this is headed. My gut feeling is he will be suspended though.

The Bears knew beforehand. So like I said. They make the deal 10 times out of 10.

Knew he had a *good chance* of being suspended a year? No - absolutely not.

If so - 100% idiotic. Who makes a deal like this knowing they stand a good chance of not having the guy for a year? Seriously.

He isn't getting a year. Where in the hell did you hear that? At most he will be getting 6 games. There is no precedent or any conceivable notion he would be suspended a year. Hub Arkush is spitting fire out of his a$$ with his quote. If you wouldn't give up two third rounders for a top 5 WR in the NFL. Well I am sure as hell glad you don't run this team. Even if he was suspended for a year, which there is a zero percent chance of happening.

Oy. You asked me where I heard where a year was a possibility then go on to list the source yourself. Of course I give up 2 #3s for Marshall prior to hearing this news - my name is up and down this board being ecstatic about the trade. It's a custom fit. If there's a good chance he's suspended I'm considerably less ecstatic as we were already in need of two starting caliber receivers for 2012.

Beginning to see the age range of the OP so I'll cease and desist with this posting. Cheers.

As with most things of this nature, I'm withholding judgment until something actually comes of this. The woman hasn't even filed charges yet.

One thing to note is that the NY Post is reporting this, and it is a borderline gossip site. On the other hand, both stories are at opposite spectrums, so the truth is in the middle somewhere. The woman might be gold digging, or considering Marshall's history of off field incidents, this could turn a bit ugly. Might be looking at up to a 4 game suspension.

This is what I hate about Goodell's jump to judge policy that started with Pacman Jones. The need to get out in front of the media story puts undue pressure on a situation. I wish the policy was to wait until there was a determination in court and then decide a punishment. There should be no reason why a determination on punishment yea or nay should be made before a determination is made in court as to what actually happened. But I'm a lawyer that still believes in that old innocent until proven guilty junk. Go figure. It would actually be legal for him to punch this woman if it was determined he used reasonable force to stop an assault & battery upon a third person. Why the emperorjones once did a Dick Butkus style tackle on a woman once and got a "thank you" from the police DESPITE the fact that she pressed charges - which she later wisely dropped lol
