#Bears have agreed to terms with RB Michael Bush on a 4-year contract. Total value $14 million. Deal includes $7 million guaranteed.

Brad Biggs ‏ @BradBiggs Reply Retweet Favorite · Open
Addition of Michael Bush likely greases the skids for Marion Barber's exit, if he didn't do that at Denver in December.

One of the things that has to be most attractive about Bush is versatility. He is skilled as a receiver out of the backfield. Durable too.

12th? RT @JoeHofman1 What round pick could the #Bears get for Marion Barber?

This is bull sh**. I absolutely HATE the Bears FO. Give the guy some damn respect. Matt Forte has carried us for the past 3 years........I don't have any clue what they are thinking.

On a side not, I like the pickup in regards to how badass Bush is. If we can get a 2-back system going, these are the two guys I would pick. I just want Chicago to show Matt that they want him here for good. Now it's just going to be harder to do that.

RT @MattForte22: for the record I'm not mad at the signing of another running back. This is 4th time that's happened. I embrace competition as well as help

RT @MattForte22: But as for not taking care of ur own and undervaluing a player under his market value is another story! #twitterrant

RT @MattForte22: Just Keeping it real...hate it or love it

Make up your mind there, Matt. It was the signing of Bush that spurred on the tweets in the first place.

Can ya really blame the guy though? I'd be pissed if other backs are getting new contracts before me, when I'm the starting pro-bowl back who was 60% of the teams offense the last couple of years.......

just because the market went hog wild stupid signing average to above average rb's to (Please Use More Appropriate Word) contracts last year, doesnt mean we have too. I'm ok with it, he doesnt want the money, take the franchise tag for 2 years, and see what u get at age 28. the bears are not going to have a chris johnson or d williams on there hands. Unless u are adrian peterson "healthy", u dont get those contracts on a smart team.

rb's arent as hard to get a hold of as qb and wr.

He was 60% of our Offense because we had no reliable WRs. Like I posted in another thread, he's not the first player in NFL history to receive the Franchise tag.

He did carry us, but look at the circumstances. No legit #1 WR, and no legit #2 WR besides maybe Bennett. Not a lot of competition at the RB spot either. The Bears had to run the ball to win, since their o-line couldn't be counted on to pass protect. I'm not saying Forte should be undervalued, he is a heck of a RB, but the Bears don't need to break the bank for him.

Look, the Bears gave Forte a reasonable offer, he declined and got tagged. He can still earn some decent money. Just because DeAngelo Williams and some of these other guys go these (Please Use More Appropriate Word) contracts doesn't mean the Bears FO should start shelling out dollars everywhere. He is coming off an injury on top of that. Look at what happened with Minny and AP. That's a pretty serious injury he went through, and that after signing a sizeable contract. What if he isn't the same player again? Stop looking at it from a emotional standpoint. It's a business.

Also, Chris Johnson is another example. Dude signs a massive contract, then underpeforms. And he eventually stopped holding out too.

I love Forte, as a back, as a dude, as a Chicago Bear, but this is bizness. Paying a RB big money always jumps back and bites teams. It just does. Now Forte has a gripe but I'm completely fine with not givin in to his demands.

Forte's just got ZERO leverage here.

- Judging from the comments I've seen across multiple boards, the fans are clearly on the FO's side, esp in this economy. Nobody's going to shed a tear for a guy that's whining over having to play for $7m these days.

- The Bears have the tag. Sorry, Matt, that's how the system works and better guys with you have been hit with the tag and took it like a man. And, guess what, they can use it again next year. Want some long term security? Come to the table and put away your Adrian Peterson/Chris Johnson fantasies.

- The Bears have capable backups. Bush and Bell may not be at the level of Forte but the drop off wouldn't be that big at all. Bell looked more than capable last year when Forte went down and Bush had ~1,400 total yards last year despite splitting time with McFadden.

Like I said, the FO has all the leverage. All Forte can do here is not sign the tender and sit out and ask for a trade. That's HIS big leverage. Good luck with that.

Bush is a beast, has been since he came out of Louisville. He has surprising quickness for such a powerful back and has a few 60+ yard TD's under his belt. Plus he's a very good receiver out of the backfield. I think with his contract he's an absolute STEAL.

I really like Forte but RB is the one of the easiest positions to fill. As far as his contract offer from the Bears and what Forte is/was probably expecting, this is a pretty good article that sums things up nicely:

http://chicagofootballtalk.com/blog/com ... rtes-worth

Anyway, Bush is a beast. Very excited to watch this team next year.

I would think people would understand by now that this offense is carried by Cutler but some still don't get it. Without Cutler our offense can't do crap look at last year. Matt Forte helps Cutler not the other way around.

I agree. Forte is good, but he's replaceable. Cutler is not replaceable.

That's how I determine salary structures.

People need to quit watching espn... All they do is scream " pay the man" ... Guess what if we hand out a huge contract to a RB, history shows we will regret the decision. THe bears are doing everything right.. If he cannot deal with 7 mil a year he can gtfo.

The bears were on pace for a 12-4 or 11-5 record last year.. without receivers, and running an offense from nfl blitz 99.

I have high expectations for this team, we will be able to score with green bay, and we have a better defense.

Saints are out
San Fran is sticking with smith
Giants are unpredictable, would not be surprised if they don't make the playoffs

We are a huge sleeper, unless we have a defensive collapse, which could happen.

As always with most teams, health determines a lot. We need to stay healthy & the sky's the limit.
