Bears Draft Thread : Day 2

While I was pretty darn positive we were going DE in Rd1 there are just sooo many ways we can go today.

Leaning towards WR, though. We've got 7 on the roster now BUT that includes Knox (possibly out for the year), Sanzenbacher (blows), and Weems (return specialist).

Don't want to reach, though. OL, DT, DB, LB, TE are all needs as well.

Lots of big names still on the board....Fleener, Konz, Rueben Randle, Worthy, Branch, Jonathon Martin, Glenn, Stephen Hill, Upshaw, Mike Adams, Bobby Massie, Devon Still.

Good luck picking Emery's brain, though....

Heres hoping one of the WR's fall. I'd love to grab Randle, Hill or Jeffrey.

Or go back to DL if a great value DT (Devon Still) is still there.

If Bobby Massie falls he'd be a good pick.

Hell - if Fleener falls all the way to 50 I'd snag him.

Looks like a couple OTs could fall to us, but I haven't read squat about us even working out an OL. I say its Hill or Randle.

Yeah - I just don't see the Bears going OL. I think they need talent at skill positions and to get younger on defense.

We have a young OL - I think they are going to give them a chance to grow, get healthy, and get coached up. They're also not going to put them in a position to fail like Martz did.

I might stroke out if Hill or Randle falls all the way to 50.

You touched on just about all the big names I'm looking at and I'm sure my heart will break just a little as I see their names picked right before us. In order :

Randle
Hill
Worthy
Fleener
Glenn
Still

Still sorting out the OT guys. What struck me in Emery's pre-draft press conference is he didn't say this was a strong draft for pure tackles, he said this was a strong draft for tackles that projected to play guard. Got enough of those.

Wanted to comment on this last night...gotta say I really like the hug it out thing that Goodell has going with the players when they hit the stage. Really classy move. Big day for the players hitting the next big phase in their lives and a great way to welcome them to the limelight. And of course the barbarian NY fans continue to boo him every year when he hits the stage. Get a clue, bums.

I'd tell David Stern to take notes but he'd probably end up hugging some of these guys' ball sacks.

Rams pick 3 times (33, 39, 45) before we do in Rd 2. Better believe one of those will be Hill or Randle (probably the latter) as they've got a glaring need at WR.

Two names on the Bears' radar to keep in mind for Day 2: WR Chris Givens (Wake Forest) and OT Kelechi Osemele (Iowa State)

just don't see us going OT until round 4 at the earliest.

My son has a baseball game on Saturday during the draft. Is it wrong to wish for a rain out so I can watch the later rounds?

I completely agree with this. I'd also add Osemele and Worthy to the list.

I don't like Chris Givens that much because he's basically an exact replica of Earl Bennett IMO.

Yeah, I hope those weren't Round 2 predictions.

Cutler likes some size on his receivers and all I see on Osemele is "lazy" and "underachiever".

I think either line or even DB are bigger needs than receiver for today. Unless as mentioned, somebody falls, which could very well happen.

Not that the WR's are great now, but I think they are suddenly solid and not the biggest need. They are old on defense as MG said. I'm not sure how they feel about the OL, maybe they feel this group can be okay (and maybe they can).

Prediction time for Round 2.

I'm going to say that Randle goes with the first pick in Rd2 and Stephen Hill will start to slide a little, Emery will get antsy and (rightly) assume he won't last to pick 50 and trade up for him.

He's raw with the routes but 6'4" with a 39.5" vertical and 4.36 40 yd speed? Yes, please.

I don't want to be a Marshall injury away from lining up with Bennett and Hester as my starting WRs. Cutler has been patient for weapons and he like big targets. This gives him another one.

Or maybe we'll pick a reach @ #50 that should've gone in Round 4. Y'know....either way.

I'm saying we end up with Alshon Jeffery or who Vaughn McClure tweeted - Chris Givens.

Sounds a little bit like Marty Booker. Albeit taller.

Well it can't get much worse than yesterday. Right?

I'm coming down on the side of liking yesterday. I wanted someone to play opposite Peppers and I'm guessing (uneducated guess) that we got him.

Today I say we go Hill if he drops. If not, DT.
