That was fast. #Bears announce contract agreement with WR Alshon Jeffery, 2nd rd pick

Good news. Don't see any reason why Jeffery can't start right out of the gates if he can pick up the scheme quickly enough.

That was very fast. If we can get all our rookies signed quickly maybe we can get back to Forte.

Great news!

I am encouraged that he will come in ready to grab the 2nd WR spot by the horns and run away with it. The Bears are primed to be Superbowl contenders with the potential for an elite potent offense to compliment the solid D.

Go Bears!

The Bears have done better than any other team regarding fast signings of draft picks the last few years.

The only reason I can think of as to why he may have done this was that he wants to show the Bears a good faith gesture and that he really wants to get to work. This possibly is a fantastic sign.

Jeffery, selected in the second round, 45th overall, in the 2012 NFL Draft, shared his enthusiasm over the deal via Twitter (@AJJeffery1): "I'm excited to be a member of the Chicago bears. I can't wait to meet my new teammates and the rest of #BearsNation!!"

he wasn't kidding. He'll be at weight. I have a good feeling about this.

#Bears WR Alshon Jeffery is the earliest second-round pick to sign since Cowboys wide receiver Kevin Williams on April 28, 1993.

Words can't describe how much I love this pick. I had my eyes on him last season thinking he'd go top 15 and out of the Bears reach. He has the talent, he just needs to stay focused.

I had the pleasure of watching him at USC for three seasons. When his head was in the game, he was the best WR in the country imo. Better than Green, better than Blackmon, and better than Jones. However, when he's not focused, he really sucks it up. With our QB issues last year, he didn't give it 100% on the field.

If he's focused, he's going to be awesome. If he's not, well you guys just drafted Dwayne Jarrett.

Another draft pick signed:

The Bears have agreed to terms with KR/CB Greg McCoy on a four-year contract.

The Bears selected McCoy with the 220th overall pick in the 7th round of the 2012 NFL Draft out of Texas Christian University. McCoy started 39 of 52 games from 2008-11, while also handling kickoff return duties his last three seasons with the team.

McCoy was named a CBSSports.com and Yahoo! Sports first-team All-American at kick returner and the Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Year as a senior after leading the conference and ranking sixth nationally in kickoff return average (30.6 yards; 979 yards and two touchdowns on 37 returns)

CHICAGO -- The entire Chicago Bears 2012 draft class is scheduled to descend on Halas Hall beginning Friday for the club's annual three-day rookie minicamp, but second-round choice Alshon Jeffery recently got an introductory lesson to the offense courtesy of veteran third-string quarterback Josh McCown.

Jeffery ran routes and caught passes from McCown when the two worked out together last weekend in Rock Hill, S.C., a city about 30 minutes outside of Charlotte, N.C. Jeffery hails from St. Matthews, S.C., while McCown played quarterback for the Carolina Panthers from 2008 to '09 and maintained a residence in the area. McCown was a voluntary assistant football coach for a North Carolina high school before he signed with the Bears on Nov. 23, 2011.

McCown left the workouts impressed with the rookie wideout, whom the Bears moved up five spots to grab at No. 45 overall on Day 2 of the draft.

"He seems like a good kid," McCown said. "I was very impressed with him mentally. Great hands, too."

"I had a chance to watch him play a couple games last year, and he's a big, physical receiver," Bears receiver Earl Bennett said Wednesday on ESPN 1000's "Carmen, Jurko and Harry Show." "A guy who is going to do very well in the red zone because of his height. I'm pretty sure he's motivated to come play in the NFL and prove people wrong that he should've been a first-round pick. I feel like he's got a chip on his shoulder to come out and prove people wrong."

Jeffery also turned down an invitation to attend the 2012 NFL Rookie Premiere, an annual event at which selected rookies are flown to Los Angeles to be photographed for their NFL player cards, in order to spend more time participating in the Bears' offseason program, according to a league source.

something tells me Jeffery is going to be pretty special.

Can't blame him though. He was discussed in the same breath as Blackmon at the start of the year, but suddenly dropped out of favor due to their scheme.

These recent news are just awesome to read about-- from the signing to the early training with McCown, it seems like he is out to prove the doubters wrong. And us moving up to get him, has motivated him.

Chicago Bears receiver Alshon Jeffery went down with leg cramp in the team's first rookie minicamp workout on Friday.

Trainers came out to stretch out Jeffery, but the 6-4, 229-pound second-rounder out of South Carolina couldn't continue and was taken off the field for precautionary reasons. He's expected to be fine.

"[He was just] cramping up," Bears head coach Lovie Smith said. "Guys do a lot of working out on their own, but it's not like when you come here and work out. I really liked what Alshon did earlier in practice, for most of the practice really. I didn't see him drop a ball. He's got great hands, is a big target and really liked the way he came in. He's going to be a good football player for us."

Offensive coordinator Mike Tice also was impressed with Jeffery.

"I saw him make a few plays over there in the one-on-ones," Tice said. "Back in the day, we called that 'picking peanuts.' He was picking peanuts off some guys’ heads it looked like to me. So I think he’s gonna have the ability for us to make plays.

"You could tell he has some explosiveness about him. You could tell he has some ball skills. That’s why we drafted him so high. You can tell that he’s gonna be a playmaker for the Bears for 2012, and hopefully for many years to come."

The rookies certainly are learning; and fast. Second-round receiver Alshon Jeffery spent time prior to minicamp working with backup quarterback Josh McCown, which the rookie said helped tremendously. Still, it hasn’t cut down the learning curve associated with making the jump from college to the NFL.

Jeffery said he’s looking to mesh the physical component of adjusting to the NFL with the mental side of the team’s new playbook on offense. He’s shown progress throughout the first two sessions, and has emerged as a standout at minicamp.

“It’s going well,” Jeffery said. “(It’s) just getting the playbook down, playing faster and getting a lot more reps and playing with confidence. That’s for you all to judge if I’m standing out. I’m just trying to get better and compete.”

Alshon Jeffery, the second-round pick out of South Carolina, has the potential to be a solid player in this league. He has real size, length and a body that shows lean mass. With all the talk throughout the draft process about his weight, Jeffery looked the part of a size/speed player.

Before the wide receiver left with leg cramps on Friday, he was smooth in his release, showed the ability to glide down the field on the deep ball and was much better than I expected coming out of his breaks. At the top of the route stem, Jeffery needs to sell the cut (which will come through repetition), but the talent is there. That was on display during one-on-ones when he climbed the ladder and attacked the football.

It's looking more & more like we may have struck gold with this kid. If the O-Line is as good as the FO is hoping, we may end up with the most potent offense in the NFL.

FWIW - Jeremy Stoltz (the guy who writes for The Bear Report) had been very critical of Jeffery's route running in college - claiming Jeffery was very sloppy and that he relied on his size more than technique. But in his mini-camp review articles Stoltz has said that Jeffery has been very impressive in his route-running and Stoltz was very surprised at how good Jeffery has looked running the entire route tree.

Jeffery has absolutely abused the training camp fodder as well as the late round picks they've put against him.

Stoltz also said that Jeffery has had no problem getting behind the secondary - his long strides make his speed deceptive - and that he has easily gotten separation on his routes.

.

I saw a clip where he was easily dusting the Bears 6th round CB Frey, who is pretty fast and not a tiny corner. I'm looking at this and thinking either Frey stinks and will not make the team, or Jeffrey can run some nice routes and get open. He looked sharp. And huge.
