Well let's break it down game by game here:

SEPTEMBER
DAY DATE OPPONENT TIME (CT)
Sun. 9 COLTS 12:00 PM (W): Even with Andrew Luck this is a terrible team with a lot of holes. At home I don't see this game being a problem.

Thu. 13 @ Packers 7:20 PM (L): Packers are still the best team in the division at Lambeau it'll be tough to pull out a win. Although the Bears do have a knack of winning games early on when everyone thinks they'll lose.

Sun. 23 RAMS 12:00 PM (W): Again at home, terrible team. But I think Bradford takes a big leap this year as the best QB in the NFC West (not that there are many good ones anyway)

OCTOBER
DAY DATE OPPONENT TIME (CT)
Mon. 1 @ Cowboys 7:30 PM (W): Cowboys they have brought in some good talent to fill up some holes (secondary especially with Claiborne and Carr) but still have some holes in major part. The running game being the big one (can DeMarco Murry handle a full season at number 1?). We've won there before with a worse team.

Sun. 7 @ Jaguars 3:05 PM (W): Bad team, especially if MJD keeps holding out. Julius Peppers is going to make Gabbert have nightmares. If we can score a few points we shouldn't have a hard time slowing them down.

Mon. 22 LIONS 7:30 PM (L): Lions get us back at us for the win they should have had a few years back. They are a good team.

Sun. 28 PANTHERS 12:00 PM (W): Carolina won't come and surprise us this year. We know what to expect.

NOVEMBER
DAY DATE OPPONENT TIME (CT)
Sun. 4 @ Titans 12:00 PM (W): Good team but not a whole lot of star power or play making ability on either side of the ball. A team you shouldn't take lightly but the Bears should defiantly beat.

Sun. 11 TEXANS 7:20 PM (L): This is granted the Texans are healthy (and the Bears for that matter) but I don't buy the hype every year as them as a Super Bowl contender. And I do think the loss of Mario Williams will hurt them. But this is still a very good team that should walk away with the
AFC South.

Mon. 19 @ 49ers 7:30 PM (L): The last trip to the bay that Jay Cutler played (say that 5 times fast) didn't go so well. I think its going to go a whole lot better this time. But while I think the 49ers aren't going to be as good as last year a west coast late night game against a good team is a hard sell.

Sun. 25 VIKINGS 12:00 PM (W): Ponder I think going to be a pretty good QB. But that team still has a ton of holes and they're still going to be pretty bad for a few more years.

DECEMBER
DAY DATE OPPONENT TIME (CT)
Sun. 2 SEAHAWKS 12:00 PM (W): Revenge game. I know I'd be itching to play these guys again. You get embarrassed on your home field and have Knox maybe end his career like that? Bears come out with a fire and don't lose twice at home in two years to the Seahawks.

Sun. 9 @ Vikings 12:00 PM (W): The Vikings didn't magically get a whole lot better in two weeks.

Sun. 16 PACKERS 12:00 PM (W): Bears come home hot and prove to the Pack that they are worthy of one of the top spots in the NFC. Pack might not be playing for as much as the Bears either.

Sun. 23 @ Cardinals 3:15 PM (W): A .500 team if they can get some consistent QB play from Kolb. While traveling to Arizona in December might be a welcome change of pace as well for the players.

Sun. 30 @ Lions 12:00 PM (W): Bears end the year on a hot streak (which I like) and split the season series with a good Lions team.

So a 12-4 record with the playoff picture looking like this:

NFC
1 Seed: Packers 14-2
2 Seed: Eagles 13-3
3 Seed: 49ers 11-5
4 Seed: Saints 11-5
5 Seed: Bears 12-4
6 Seed: Falcons 10-6

So there you go. Over the top? Maybe. Great way to waste time before the NBA finals game. Absolutely.

 great post! I agree with 12-4. I think even if we have key injuries we can still make the playoffs because of how much depth we have. Hopefully none of our key players are put on injured reserved though, because we will need them for the playoffs no matter what.

Can't give my prediction until after I see them in pads/preseason. But looking at each schedule, I do think the 49ers will be more like 13-3, Eagles 10-6/11-5, and Saints 9-7. You see the Lions at less than 10-6? I was thinking 11-5 with that schedule. The Bears need to go at least 11-5 to make the playoffs this year IMO.

I think we should start a new game. Right before the season starts we predict the record for every team then make weekly prediction through out the season.

I had planned on at least 2 games during the season 1) Bears Survivor Island and 2) A confidence game (that would be a weekly prediction through out the season as you've suggested.

how would you see the prediction game working?

I think it would be fun. It would show who knows the NFL the best. Preseason we pick an overall record then weekly picks then compare the total weekly predictions with the preseason prediction and see who was the closest with their prediction

Actually, I'll go ahead and say 13-3. 12-4 was getting too popular for my liking. We only play 6 difficult games this year: two against the Packers, two against the Lions, one against the Texans and one against the 49ers.

I think we split with the Packers, sweep the Lions, and lose to the Texans and 49ers.

I was gonna wait until Emp posted his annual prediction thread , but I gotta show my buddy ChicagoStrong some love in his thread.

So......I predict 11-5 (subject to change :D ). I feel that it will take time to develop a rhythm offensively regardless of the Cutler/Marshall past relationship. Our O-Line will need about half the season to become a singular unit, IMHO. We are also implementing yet another offensive system, as well.

Also, there is ALWAYS a NFL team that goes from garbage one year, then surprise powerhouse the next season. That team may very well be on our schedule.

I think the Seahawks and Titans can be really good teams this year. But not good enough to beat a title contender IMO.

That team is obviously the Bears. 8-8 finish with problems on the O-Line, a rougue OC, Caleb at QB, and the shortest WRs around. Well in reality, with those flaws we would have finished 10-6/11-5 without the Cutler & Forte injuries. With the editions we've made in FA & the draft this team is primed to shock this year.

Any type of new game sounds good to me. I truly enjoyed the 'Superbowl game' once I understood the rules.

I'll think of my prediction soon but as I told emperor I think our annual sig/avatar bet is going to be off as I think we're both wildly confident in the Bears this year. I'm usually the pessimist but I really like what we've done so far.

As long as we're thinking of games prior to the season though....I'm not sure if it'll work with as few members as we have on this board but I'd like to start a type of survivor pool.

Rules are simple....pick just one team each week you think is going to win (straight up, no spread). Once you pick that team, though, you can't pick them again for the rest of the season. Once your team loses, you're out, obviously. The rest moves to the next week until only one remains.

Sounds incredibly easy but I've seen this done on boards with thousands of members in which inevitably only a couple guys remain at the end of the season. Anyone that's gone of the footballguys.com forum has probably seen this.

Let's see.....

September
DAY DATE OPPONENT
Sun. 9 COLTS WIN
Thu. 13 @ Packers LOSS
Sun. 23 RAMS WIN
October
DAY DATE OPPONENT
Mon. 1 @ Cowboys WIN
Sun. 7 @ Jaguars WIN
Mon. 22 LIONS WIN
Sun. 28 PANTHERS WIN
November
DAY DATE OPPONENT
Sun. 4 @ Titans WIN
Sun. 11 TEXANS WIN
Mon. 19 @ 49ers LOSS
Sun. 25 VIKINGS WIN
December
DAY DATE OPPONENT
Sun. 2 SEAHAWKS WIN
Sun. 9 @ Vikings WIN
Sun. 16 PACKERS WIN
Sun. 23 @ Cardinals WIN
Sun. 30 @ Lions LOSS

Yeah.....13-3 sounds good. Split with Lions and Pack. Lose on the road to 49ers. Beat the rest though Cowboys game could go either way. Could be another fluke loss in there and injuries are always a factor so this obviously is based on 100% health assumption of key guys which is prob not going to happen but that's what I'm rolling with.

Yea I think that was an important thing I forgot to preface my predictions about. I will update them after the pre-season and these are far too early. And I will make tweaks. But to defend what I put up so far.

49ers went under the radar and won't sneak up on anyone this year. They've got to go at GB, New England, and NO. I think that's 3 losses right there. Plus their division is a lot better then it used to be. I don't think they are going to totally sweep it.

Eagles are going to be really good this year IMO. The "dream team" talk got them overhyped. But they filled some of their hole (I love them getting DeMico Ryans) and they won't start as bad either I don't think I'd be surprised (barring major injury) if they lost more then 4 games this year.

Saints I thought about downgrading them. But they seem like the type of team to rally around the Payton thing. Plus they've still got Drew Brees. That was the one team I thought hard about and probably have overranked. I've just gotten burned too many times by doubting them.

As for the Lions in this hypothetical I had them at 11-5 as well but losing the tiebreaker to the Falcons. They've got some hard road games and it seems they haven't fixed that awful secondary yet still.

Again though I'll come up with a new one in late August.

Return to Chicago Bears
