Bears Bring Back Rashied Davis

The Bears have reached out to a familiar face to fill a newly vacant receiver spot of the team.
Chicago on Monday signed receiver Rashied Davis a day after Devin Thomas announced he was retiring from football.

The team traded away Davis last year for free agent and former Dallas Cowboy Sam Hurd, who ended up arrested in December on federal drug charges after a six-month investigation into his alleged Dallas-to-Chicago cocaine operation.

Davis doesn't appear scorned by the move and told reporters Monday he's excited for another chance on the team.

Those who remember Davis from before his departure recall he's the kind of player known for consistency and being flexible, whether it's filling in for an injured receiver or rallying his teammates during the lockout.

Davis was with the Bears for six seasons and on Monday signed to a one-year contract with the team. Training camp continues in Chicago.

Not a bad 3rd or 4th receiver. Cutler has too many weapons....and I'm loving it.

I hated him as a WR, LOVED him as a special teams player.

I dunno - I'm guessing he doesn't even make the final roster unless someone gets hurt in camp. Probably fighting Sanzenbacher for the final WR spot and coaches have been raving about his improvement. Rashied's hands were always crap and I guess Sanzenbacher had his share of the dropsies last yr, too. I imagine it comes down to what you want more out of that roster spot - someone that can actually play some WR or a special teams guy.

We rolled with 6 WRs last year: Knox, Bennett, Hester, Sanz, R Williams, Hurd.

Will prob roll with 6 this year as well: Marshall, Hester, Jeffery, Bennett, Weems, Sanz this year.

BTW, pretty nice improvement when you can knock out turds like Roy Williams and Hurd and replace them with the likes of Marshall and Jeffery, eh?

i really dont think sanzenbacher will make this roster. i will put my money on Rashied being the 6th wr/ST speacialist.

there really is no need for sanzenbacher, imo, b/c the bears will incorporate alot of TE plays. and i believe kellen davis will be a factor in this offense.

matt forte and michael bush are also very capable catchers. i would definitely beef up the special team unit with rashied and weems as the 5th and 6th guys.

remember we lost corey graham who has been super on STs.

I say we try to resign Sam Hurd. He can't have too many suitors, right?

Edit: Bad joke.

Got to imagine that Davis > Sanzenbacher in terms of special teams and that's what the #5 or #6 guy has to do.
