Guess the 53-man, anyone?

Time to play that game again....

Of course this could be pointless as I see reports we're looking at safeties on the wire and it's always tough to figure out how the practice squad will be configured. Here's my shot:

QB (3): Cutler, Campbell, Blanchard. 33yr old McCown goes bye-bye.
RB: (4) Forte, Bush, Allen, Booker. Wouldn't be surprised if Booker doesn't make it.
FB (1): Clutts
WR (6) : Marshall, Hester, Jeffery, Bennett, Weems, Davis. Davis beats out Sanz based on special teams ability.
OL (9): Webb, Garza, Spencer, Carimi, Louis, CWilliams, Brown, EWilliams, Rachal. Got to believe the waiver wire is going to figure in the final roster spots here, though.
TE (4): Davis, Spaeth, Adams, Rodriguez. 4 TEs sounds like one too many, though. Maybe Spaeth hits the road?

DL (8): Peppers, Idonije, McClellin, Melton, Paea, Toeaina, Price, Wootton. Argh. The depth here is crazy good. I wanted guys like Nate Collins, Cheta Ozougwu, and even John McCargo to make the team but you can only carry so many. Tough cuts. Wouldn't be surprised if there's some surprises here. Price + Wootton aren't givens, that's for sure.
LB (6) : Urlacher, Roach, Briggs, Hayes, Thomas, Costanzo.
DB (9): Tillman, Jennings, Hayden, Moore, Frey, Conte, Wright, Hardin, Steltz. Anthony Walters loses the last roster spot to Isaiah Frey.

LS: Mannelly
K: Gould
P: Podlesh/Quigley

Good candidates for the 8 man practice squad: Walters (S), Ozougwu (DE), Summers (WR), McCoy (CB), Trahan (LB).

QB (3) Cutler, Campbell, McCown. McCown has looked better in his career, but I think he still is better then Blanchard. Blanchard will be groomed on the practice squad.

RB (3/4) Forte, Bush, Booker, Allen (Allen's spot depends on whether or not Knox can play this season. Or if Sanzenbacher gets cut to make Knox the 6th receiver.)

FB (1) Clutts

WR (6/7) Marshall, Jeffery, Bennett, Hester, Weems, Sanzenbacher (Knox will be in there if he's not put on IR. Otherwise it's just six receivers. If he makes it either Allen or Sanz is gone.)

TE (4) Davis, Spaeth, Rodriquez, Adams

OL (8) Webb, Spencer, Garza, Louis, Carimi, C. Williams, Rachal, E. Williams

DL (9) Peppers, Idonije, McClellin, Wootton, Melton, Paea, Toeina, Price, Collins

LB (6) Urlacher, Briggs, Roach, Hayes, Costanzo, Thomas

DB (9) Tillman, Jennings, Moore, Hayden, Frey (Wilhite handed Frey his spot IMO), Conte, Wright, Steltz, Hardin

ST (3) Gould, Podlesh, Mannelly

Practice squad candidates: Blanchard, Troy Brown, Ozugwu, McCoy, Walters, Unga, Gibson, Quigley, Anderson, Armando Allen (if Bears keep 7 receivers)

So I'll say that our 4ht safety will come from elsewhere.

Also think that we will get a starting LT after cuts. Then I think we will cut either Chris Spencer or Chris Williams and start the one that stays at LG.

Typical Lovie redshirt move. See it every year where a rookie gets a little dinged and could probably play a good chunk of the year but gets placed on IR. Puts Anthony Walters - my last cut - in Hardin's spot on my 53 man.

Yes the annual redshirt. From what I'm seeing out of JT Thomas, it worked last time. Hopefully Hardin comes back next year ready to push Wright or nab the job himself.

As for Walters, I don't like him. Yes he made that deflection in the end zone that led to the Frey INT. But I'm pretty sure it was his guy who got through on that blocked punt against the Giants. If the Bears don't think he can be a good special teams player then he is not gonna make the roster.

Well I blew the Blanchard pick for the #3 QB spot- he couldn't even make the 75 man roster as he was waived today. :-?

Not going to guess the 53, but my .02 is that they only keep 2 QB's, don't carry a FB at all, and go with 7 LB's due to Urlacher's injury.

yep i gotta agree with not having a FB at all. aaron hernandez, i mean, Evan Rodriguez, got 1st team half back duties in the 3rd game. hes gonna be a steal, imo.

Idk about that. Clutts is an excellent lead blocker and a very good special teams player as well.

Unga was the one who got beat on that punt block and he promptly got cut. Unless we sign another safety off the street, I see Walters making it due to sheer #'s alone. Conte is still hurt as well.

While Sanz is a serviceable WR, he provides zero value on special teams so I'd be surprised if he made it. Barring injury, I just don't see him getting any snaps at WR. I would think we'd keep at least 1 PS WR in the wings in case of injury. Of course, I could be totally wrong as keeping 4 TE's seems like a lot as well, however, Adams is a good special teams player and Toub get's last call on these sort of things. Only a few more days...

Well, DeCicco just got cut so there goes my listing. I'm guessing 1-2 people not on the current roster ends up making the team which will be decided after the final cut down listing.

At least McCown had a great showing last night. He should have no problem latching on to another team.

Clutts is surprising.

Chewie's man Ozougwu deserved that spot. This is his post from the Giants game thread:

Just heard on the radio that Clutts will not be cut, but instead traded to Houston for a QB.

Also, this boards favorite DT, Mr. Okoye has been cut by Tampa Bay & will be signed by the Bears.
