Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte left Thursday night's game against the Green Bay Packers in the third quarter with a right ankle injury.

"The extent of the injury we don't know right now, but he couldn't finish the game," Bears coach Lovie Smith said soon after Chicago's 23-10 loss.

The Bears believe Forte suffered a high ankle sprain, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

High ankle sprains can linger. That's like a 4 week thing minimum.

Trib reports we're bringing in Steve Slaton in for a look but I don't know why we're not calling Kahil Bell who impressed (but admittedly fumbled too much) in relief of Forte last year. He's probably still PO'd over being cut over not taking a pay cut but should suck it up in light of the fact nobody else clearly wants him.

In fact, I'd bring in Bell and start him over Bush who I'd prefer in his current relief/goal line role over a starting role.

I think Slaton is much better than Bell so I like that they're taking a look at him. Plus he's a scat back so we can put Armando Allen back on the practice squad once Forte is healthy.

Kahlil Bell, who was released during the preseason after declining to take a pay cut, agreed to terms on a one-year, minimum-salary contract Saturday. The former undrafted player from UCLA attracted interest from Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh, and Buffalo in the last few weeks.

"I never wanted to leave Chicago in the first place, let’s make that clear,’’ Bell told the Tribune on the way to Halas Hall. "I love the city. I love the team. I love the coaching staff.’’

Bell's minimum salary based on three credited seasons of experience would be $615,000.

Lovie Disputes Chewie...... :D

Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith said Monday that despite the posting of valued Real GM poster Chewie and other members of the local media, Matt Forte does not have a high ankle sprain, and while he didn't go into specifics, he did say Forte is still sore, which is why the Bears brought back Kahlil Bell (as suggested by Chewie).

Forte was injured during Thursday's 23-10 loss to the Green Bay Packers, and multiple outlets reported it was a high ankle sprain, which usually keeps a player sidelined longer than a normal sprain.

"Matt did go down with an ankle injury. It's not a high ankle sprain, as has been reported," Smith said on WBBM (780-AM). "But right now, you know when you don't finish the game and he still has some soreness, we'll continue to monitor it, but we felt we needed another running back here, that's why we brought back a guy who knows our system and has played good ball for us in Kahlil Bell."

Yeah, you better recognize, Lovie. :rocking:

Not sure what to make of this. Lovie-speak? The media doesn't just make up their own injury report so they got it from *somewhere*. I don't get it. It's better than the original report so I'll take it as a positive.

I kept Forte in my lineup for fantasy football for tonight's game against Dallas. I already feel like I made a gamble, and am going to lose. I guess it doesn't really matter considering I got backhanded hard this week. Haha. Ahhh well.

Goodbye to Kahlil Bell yet again. Hello to a new TE:

The Chicago Bears have signed tight end Brody Eldridge to a one-year contract and waived running back Kahlil Bell.

The 6-5, 265-pound Eldridge has started 16 of 27 contests over two seasons (2010-11) with the Colts, recording 14 receptions for 84 yards (6.0 ypr) after being selected by Indianapolis in the fifth round (162nd overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma.

Bell appeared in two games for the Bears this season and had 32 rushing yards on 12 carries (2.7 ypc) along with an 11-yard reception.
