The Jay Cutler Media Witch Hunt

Is it me or is the media - both local and national - now officially out to crap all over the guy?

I mean, I will accept any rational argument about how Jay shouldn't have been so animated - how he shouldn't have shoved Webb, etc. etc. Was it over the top? Maybe.
But honestly, you have to take it into context. Cutler is an open book when it comes down to how he feels, honestly. When he was annoyed by his short, oft-misaligned wide receivers, he let us know. When he was upset by his OC's play calling, he let us know. When he was annoyed by home fans that don't understand the fact that when the offense is on the field they'd appreciate you keeping it down, he let us know. And does any sane, rational, fan or media member disagree with those previous assessments? No. And now, after being repeatedly battered the previous 3 seasons or so, and getting continually dropped this game, he let his LT know just what he thought of the job he was doing.
And all these talking heads and former pro-bowl players make me laugh. 'If that were me, I would have knocked Jay out!'. No, quite honestly, if that were you you would have been a pro-bowl left tackle and you and Jay would be going out to dinner together every Saturday. Jay wouldn't have to worry about his back and he'd probably be willing to forgive you for the occasional bad play like he does with Marshall - who has helped him more often than he has hurt him. Cutler is an open book. He's got a temper, but he's more than willing to respect you if you are out there helping him. If you are repeatedly screwing **** up, you are on his **** list. Plain and simple. All this talk about how Cutler has to be the one to change. See what happens on days he has time vs. days he's getting tossed around, the stats are plain to see. And also find me one of these media goofs that is actually convinced the Bears have a 'serviceable' O Line. Then, and only then, can we really start piling onto Jay.

The problem is that jay has to be accountable for his own mistakes at this juncture everyone is making mistakes JAY INCLUDED. I just dont see any leadership on the offensive side of the ball and everyone else is starting to see it as well.
No one is saying he shouldnt let his teammates have it at times because all the great ones have the problem is that it was a close game in the first half and his little outbursts basically seemed to unravel the entire offense . In a one score game in the first half what was the point of that ? At some point he has to start showing some consistent leadership not just play faves .

Jay is a easy target because he's an arrogant a-hole. Did he makes mistakes? Sure, but people are acting like no one else is to be blamed.

The problem is not that no one else is to blame its that jay is basically acting as though everyone but him is to blame . Where is the leadership ? Clay Mathews beat Webb and instead of giving the over matched lineup some encouragement in the early part of a close game he basically falls apart and the offense behind him .
They all made mistakes how would it seem that if everytime jay thew a pick Urlacher or another defensive player gave him an earful and bumped him ? Its about leadership and jay has not shown that he can keep a cool head when things get tough .

Last night is not the only time Webb has **** up. Webb is over matched most of the time. He shouldn't have bumped/shoved Webb, but Webb deserves the other stuff.

Webb is a 24 yr old OT jay is a nearly 30 veteran QB
Where is the development ? in fact where is the development of any young offensive player since jay arrived ?
Jay doesnt handle adversity well and it trickles down to the rest of the offense . When jay pushed him it was a once score game in the first half . He simply cant keep losing his cool and pouting like that . This game was very winnable by a QB that can adapt and handles adversity well.
Did anyone see all the talking jay and Brandon were doing last week ? They read there own clippings and came in thinking they were gonna have another 400 yard passing game.
I hope for the bears sake that Jays maturity level doesnt become an issue for the rest of the season

Jay is a schmuck, his body language, his mannerisms, his decision making, his ego. There is a lot to hate about Jay Cutler, he has a hot wife, his hair is perfectly bad and you have never seen a guy ride a stationary bike during the NFC Championship against your biggest rival without equivocation or reservations.
That said, our offense line has almost zero NFL starter talent and is predictably terrible. We also can't get an offensive coordinator who can spell the words "adjust" "ment". Never mind it's actually one word and such an important word in the NFL.
Jay is a pain in da ass, but he is the best QB we have had since Sid Luckman....folks...Sid Luckman. I will stand by that statement and that was especially hard for me to type because I really can't stand him as a Bear.

It's been 2 years and Webb has not improved in the slightest. I agree that Jay can be immature, but I'm not going to act like Webb doesn't deserve any blame.
And what other young budding offensive players have we had that haven't improved because of Cutler? I mean is that what you are saying?

DJ Moore...*sigh*
"I think it's just wrong, though honestly," defensive back D.J. Moore said. "I would feel the same kind of way if he was to do me like that. It would make it seem like, well, the reason I'm having a bad game is because it's what you're doing and not me taking accountability for myself because I'm throwing these type of passes or doing this type of read. So it's just a tough situation."
"But when you act like that, though, with your own teammates on the sideline, it's just something different that you normally wouldn't do," he said. "You might say it in the locker room or something, but to do it like he did, that's something different. It's just weird."
"I think it's just him," Moore said. "That's the type of guy he is. He's not going to hold anything back. So I mean, if he was to talk to the team I guess you would kind of feel weird about it because it's really not just his thing."
"Is it unfair to criticize Jay right now? Shoot, it's unfair for him to be like that toward J'Marcus. In every game in every sport, there's always somebody who has a tough day. For you to come off on the sideline, once you holler at him it makes it seem like [Webb] is the only reason."
"I don't talk to him. He knows. But if I was J'Marcus, shoot ... it wouldn't have went down like that. You just can't ... then when [Cutler] shoved him stuff, man. I don't know.
"I don't feel for Cut. He knows what he was doing. I don't think you do that. I think if you have a problem with [Webb], maybe do that in the locker room or something.
"It's like bad-mouthing someone in the media. It's just weird.''
Note of irony to DJ Moore: Since you want to be the arbiter of all things right and wrong, guess what's wrong with you popping off to the media about a teamate, the QB no less? Hint: nearly everything.Gabe Carimi though. Wee bit smarter. Just a hair:Right tackle Gabe Carimi called it "overblown." He said he was standing near Webb and saw the incident.
"Honestly it was barely a shove, so I don't think I would have even recognized until it was brought up on media," Carimi said.
Cutler lost it in the heat of the battle, got emotional picking his teeth out of the turf. I would say that DJ Moore's behavior is more disturbing. It was considered, presumably thought upon, and delivered to the hot press on a silver platter. Not exactly a profile in team unity yourself Mr Moore. Take a cue from Chilo:
“[Cutler] is just being competitive, wanting to win,” said Rachal, a veteran of emotional head coaches Mike Singletary and Jim Harbaugh while a member of the San Francisco 49ers. “I liked it.”
Hey DJ....DJ Moore. Put your big boy pants on, get your panties unbunched.

I played o-line in high school and I played best when my teammates or coaches got on my ass. It might me angry regardless if it was deserved or not. Webb needs to more thick skinned and use it as motivation. If Cutler pissed him off he should taken it out on Matthews. Linemen are suppose to play angry and focused, he's done neither since he became the start.

Wow... DJ. Very stupid. "it's like bad-mouthing someone in the media?"
Did this guy not realize what he was saying? Oh well. I'm not worried. If Webb gets a fire under his belly, he might start putting forth effort. If he folds, we replace him with Chris Williams, who IMO was the best lineman we had last year til the injury.

Right. Linemen on D and O are supposed to play with power, rage, tenacity. All the best lineman are described as "ferocious" or "nasty"
J'Marcus does not seem to have that quality at all. He's more "playful" or "goofy" or "confused"

Cutler speaks.Regarding Webb:Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler said Tuesday he spoke "with the powers that be" and the offensive line -- "each of them individually" -- about the incident during the team's loss to the Green Bay Packers in which he was seen yelling at and eventually bumping left tackle J'Marcus Webb.
Cutler doesn't regret yelling at Webb, but said: "I probably shouldn't have bumped him. I'll go with that."
"As far as me yelling at him and trying to get him going in the game, I don't regret that," Cutler said Tuesday on the "Jay Cutler Show" on ESPN 1000. "(I) shouldn't have bumped him. I'll stick to that."
Cutler wouldn't say whether he apologized to Webb, stating that the situation was "between me and J'Marcus."
"We've talked. It's in the past. We're moving on," Cutler said. "He's our left tackle. He's my left tackle. I expect him each and every week to play at a certain level, and I think he expects himself to play that well, too."
Why he was pissed at Webb during the game & his own composure:Cutler expressed the sentiment that during the incident with Webb against the Packers, he was simply trying to motivate a player that even offensive coordinator Mike Tice has criticized for lacking focus. In bumping Webb, Cutler said he never lost composure but wanted a positive reaction from the offensive tackle and would have been fine with him reacting aversely.
"Sure, anything really to let me know that 'Hey, I'm (ticked) off I got beat. I'm gonna try to rectify it. I'm gonna try to get us back in this ball game,' " Cutler said. "I think I had my composure all game under the circumstances
Regarding DJ Moore:Asked whether he heard Moore's comments, Cutler said, "I did" adding that "DJ's right; his last quote: 'I'm not gonna badmouth somebody in the media.' He's entitled to his opinion and whatever he wants to say is up to him."
Bears coach Lovie Smith agreed, saying on Monday he was fine with Moore's comments, which came in a firestorm of criticism levied at Cutler on the heels of the club's performance at Lambeau Field. Cutler said he felt "indifferent" about the criticism coming from peers and former players now serving as analysts at various outlets.
Regarding Charles Woodson & other critics:"They have a job to do and that's to go on TV and either tear apart or congratulate, or do whatever they're trying to get accomplished in their show," Cutler said. "That's what it is. I can't get involved in every single person's opinion on my play, my character and my leadership skills."
Cutler wouldn't respond to Woodson's comments.
"I can't comment on every single person that says something. That's not how I operate. I'm not a fan like you," Cutler said. "I'm not gonna read every single part of what people say and go, 'Oh, he's right. Maybe I should call him and say something. Oh man, he's wrong. Let me call and straighten him out.' That's just not how it's gonna go down."

Marshall to the rescue:Chicago Bears receiver Brandon Marshall adamantly voiced support for Jay Cutler on Wednesday, saying he wouldn't want to play with him if the quarterback didn't possess a fiery demeanor.
"What people need to understand is everyone's different," Marshall said. "Jay's who he is. Whenever you get outside of yourself, I think that's when you create problems. You have to be who you are. So when Jay is not fiery, that's when I'm gonna have a problem. I'm gonna want to play with a different quarterback."
"That's the guy I want to play for," Marshall said of Cutler. "We have to be productive. We have to make sure we're communicating the right way. I think Jay is learning how to communicate with different guys. The things that go on in our locker room, we try to keep in house."
"Jay can be one of the best to have ever done it, and it's on us to be better around him. One of the things that I want to be known is I've got to make better plays. I've got to make more plays," Marshall said. "Given the opportunities, I've got to come down with the ball. So if I can do my part and the guys around me can do their parts, I think we'll be able to move in the right direction."
"Even in our personal lives when we go out, Jay doesn't love the attention," Marshall said. "He doesn't want to be the guy up front. He just wants to come to work and do his job. He really loves this game.
"I think the media has a picture of what a quarterback is supposed to look like. In our sport now, it may be Tom Brady. It may be the great Peyton Manning; now Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees. They do things totally
different."
Marshall said "there's no doubt in my mind" teammates continue to support Cutler, adding that "Jay is a guy that everyone wants to play for."
"A quarterback has a special way of getting guys going. When I look at Jay and having the time in Denver with Jay, and the time so far in Chicago, that's why I made the statement: 'That's the guy I want to play for,'" Marshall said. "Jay knows, he can just say -- I don't want to share it with you -- but he can just make a statement before practice and it'll get me going, because he knows my drive and where I'm at mentally.
"At the end of the practice I'm like, 'Man, I just went maybe too hard,' and it was all because of what Jay said to me before. It's truly a blessing to be back in this, be back with him and (quarterbacks) coach (Jeremy) Bates, be with (coach) Lovie (Smith), coach (Mike) Tice. This is a dream job for me. I think we're going to take advantage of it. Hopefully we can come together as a team and win some games."

I've always been a big fan of Cutler. In terms of personality he's kind of the anti-Rodgers or Brady which I kind of like, and he's basically just being honest most of the time.
In this case I was pretty disappointed that he didn't take some responsibility for his own play which was pretty poor. It was obvious to me that he was chucking it up near the end and he just didn't seem to care that it led to interceptions. He's 29 now though and it's unlikely he'll ever change much at this point.
BTW I've been registered for a long time; I read but never post on the Bulls board, it's so active that everything I think has already been said. Now that the "official" Bears board is gone I thought I'd come back here.

Jamarcus Webb is lucky to be on an Nfl roster.
I hate that everyone is making a witch hunt to defend some scrub who may replaced by the bye.
