Won't need surgery, and his hand is in a cast.

Should be out at least 2 games. If we didn't have a bye this week, it would probably been 3 games. Thoughts?

It sucks that it happened but if that's the worst case then it's good. It also says that we will sign another wide reciever.

BALLS!

the Bears will need him against Detroit and Houston. They can certainly beat Detroit without him, but I am never that confident when I see BM, Hester and Dane lining up (at the same time). Have to hope Bennet can step up.

This is the first time I heard a broken bone can heal in 3 weeks. I'm a little skeptical about the timetable unless he is just gonna play injured, and thats not a good idea for your players that use their hands to catch the ball.

here we go. This sounds more realistic:

#Bears rookie WR Alshon Jeffery could miss 4-6 weeks with a fracture in his right hand, according to league source.

Well 4 weeks sees him missing 2 games counting the bye week. I think the timetable is spot on.

He could be back by the Texans game if we are lucky.

I wonder who are the wide receivers they will be looking at.

I guess Emp was right about the injury in the game thread. The good news is that Earl Bennett will be ready for our next game & I'm comfortable putting Bennett, Marshall, & Hester out there as our wideouts for 4 games. If we go off of the high end of 6 weeks that Fleet's link outlined, we will have the kid back for our final 6 or 7 games in the regular season. If that's the worst-case scenario, I can deal with it. It could've been a lot worse.

Exactly. Our BYE came at the best time.

-Marc Clayton he's old but we don't need him for long, or Plaxico Burress

I wouldn't mind Chad Johnson if he is healthy or in shape.

But chances are they will go with Rashid Davis who knows the offense. Kind of hard to add a guy in the middle of the season when that person doesn't know whats going on. It would take them a few games and practices to catch on.

I doubt very seriously that we would bring in a controversial veteran. We will probably add a young guy to be ready in case of emergency. We have 5 guys already on the roster: Marshall, Bennet, Hester, Sanzenbacher, & Weens.

Sucks a bit cause I want him to build as much chemistry as possible with Jay during the regular season... but as mentioned, best time possible for this bad news.

If the Chicago Bears are looking for a veteran receiver to replace injured rookie Alshon Jeffery, Plaxico Burress said he would be honored to take their phone call.

"For me to get to a football town like Chicago and play with a group of guys like (Matt) Forte, Brian (Urlacher), (Brandon Marshall) and Jay (Cutler) would be an honor," Burress said by phone on Tuesday. "I just have to get the green light."

Plaxico is politicking to join the Bears. I personally don't see it happening, though. I think that they will add a young guy instead.

- With rookie Alshon Jeffery likely to miss time with a fracture in his right hand, the Chicago Bears signed Kamar Aiken to the practice squad on Tuesday, the team announced.

The 6-foot-2, 213-pound Aiken last week was released from the practice squad of the Buffalo Bills.

The Bears released Harvey Unga as the coresponding move.

There's a chance the team could promote rookie Joe Anderson from the practice squad to the active roster, and move Aiken into his place, which would seem a likely scenario. Anderson turned heads in the preseason and has some familiarity with the offense, despite his inexperience.

We can't sign Davis until after week 8.

Emery basically shooting down any rumors regarding veteran free agent WRs:

Chicago Bears general manager Phil Emery said Wednesday he's happy with his current group of wide receivers, all but rejecting the interest shown by Plaxico Burress in joining the Bears.

Burress, who is out of football this season after catching eight touchdowns for the New York Jets last year, told ESPNChicago.com on Tuesday that he would be honored to join the Bears. Emery was asked about the report on Wednesday.

"We kind of look at (improving) every day," Emery said. "Every day we look at the availability of the veteran players that are out there and whether they can add to our mix in a positive way. So that we can win championships and continue to work towards winning championships. So if there is a player out there we feel is going to make our mix better, would we approach them? Yes. But it just depends on the player, depends on the situation, depends on what our needs are.

"I would say to answer more specifically to that question: We feel very good about our wide receiver depth. We added a player to our practice squad (Kamar Aiken) to make sure we were in a good competitive situation for practice. We continue to improve. That's where we are with that group."

Good. No need to bring has-beens in here. If those guys were the answer at WR then they'd be employed right now.

As long as Marshall is healthy and clicking, our WR core is going to be just fine.

Dane will be targeted more. Weems is in the garage. Weems may get out of the garage. I'm not exited about that, even though I like Dane (and Weems), but I would expect things like that to happen more than Plax.
