What do we draft with our first pick?

Post#1 » by patryk7754 » Sun Oct 14, 2012 2:24 pm

What do we draft if an elite OL and LB drops to us ( Manti Te'o vs Luke Joeckel)
If there is no 1sr round talent at LB or OL what do we draft?

I say OL only if a elite Tackle is there crap I'm so tired of Webb and Williams.

Please please please draft a lineman first round, then Manti Te'o or another LB to be mentored by Urlacher and eventually replace him.

Draft O-linemen with every pick we have.

This draft class is a tad underwhelming at the O/L position and there are a ton of defensive stars in the making in this draft. I'd look to get Urlachers replacement and continue to address the D/L.

Luke Joeckel from Tex A&M is the best OL in the draft, but he's probably a top 10-15 pick, and we won't be that high. But there's some quality tackles out there such as Eric Fisher, Taylor Lewan, and Brennan Williams. Those are also probably early picks, and I think the only way we land one of them is by trading up, and it'll be interesting to see if the Bears want to do that.

Barrett Jones will be great in the NFL. Idk why he's so underrated this year. He's the most versatile o-linemen I've ever seen. Some mocks have him dropping to us and if that happens we gotta snatch that cat.

Now the problem I would have if Teo (probably not) is there too, who do we take?

OL is definitely the prioritty. We HAVE to have more protection, but we don't need Te'o or another LB mentoring project for Urlacher while Urlacher is still playing decent.

We have needs at OL, LB and CB. We don't have a third round pick. Of we don't move in the draft then I think the Bears will draft the best player available from these there positions with the first two picks.

OL: Garza is old and we need to replace him. Webb is inconsistent. I think one if them will be replaced in the draft and the other in free agency (unless Webb plays consistory well the rest of the year).

LB: Urlacher and Briggs are both getting old, still stars, but getting old. Roach is decent but we can upgrade and his replacement will eventually be the lead LB once the HOFers are gone.

CB: Tillman is also getting old. If we draft a corner with the first or second rounder that guy can play nickel for a year, then replace Tillman as the starter.

Joekel and Teo definitely won't be there in the first.

Players I like
First round: Barret Jones, Lewan. Xavier Rhodes, Jonathan Banks.
Second/third round: Khaled Holmes, Jordan Poyer, Desmond Trufant, Michael Mauti, Gerald Hodges.

I like Penn State linebackers lol

If Jake Mathews drops to us in the first round we definitely draft him. If Mathews, Jones or Lewan aren't there i'd draft knew of the four corners I mentioned with the first pick. Then Mauti or Hodges in the second. Just hope Holmes or another good center is there in the fourth.

^ I really don't see the need for replacing our corners right now.

We have Jennings, Tillman, Hayden, McManis, Moore, and Bowman. That's a solid CB group, and we don't need to replace Tillman more than we need to give Cutler better coverage.

The OL really is our biggest need and should be the top priority and top pick.

McManis is purely a special teams guy. Hayden, more and Bowman are all on one year contracts. Tillman will be 33(?) Going into the last year of his contract and has a huge roster bonus. Jennings contract also ends after next season.

With that i'd say we need more corners. And if the best corner on the board is better than the best lineman on the board, you clearly take the corner.

You don't think we'll resign most of our corners? They're looking pretty good.

I guess the bigger point is not to reach for marginal OL talent which is what I believe we have done in the past. I say don't force it, if defense is stacked with potential studs then go for it. Peppers isn't getting any younger and Urlarcher has lost a step contrary to his own view.

No I don't. But the point i'm making is I don't think the bears will reach for a lineman just because that's a need. The next biggest needs imo are corner and linebacker, and I see a lot of good talent at those positions that will likely be available with our first two picks.
