Should D-fence be given a pass tonight?

All I keep hearing on the post game shows is how the defense was eaten up and failed the team. I for one believe the defense should be given a pass for tonights game considering they've won the 7 games this season the Bears have won and played well in the previous two losses.
The fact that the offense failed to give the defense any rest or any momentum gives pause to the failings of the defense. This offensive line is just pathetic and the fact that Mike Tice continues to call useless plays is astounding. I understand it's hard to open up the playbook when your qb has an averaged of .9 seconds to make his reads and deliver the pass, but the predictability allows teams to t-off on the qb.

Coaching has a big factor in the failing of the offensive line. J-Webb is a 7th round pick for a reason. He also played mostly guard. Rachal was a guard on the right side. Carimi played left tackle all thru college and our center played guard for how long? Why all of a sudden have these guys all been moved to positions they never played during college and for some most of their pro careers. If these guys were all playing the position they came into the league designated as and stunk this bad then I would lay all of the blame on them. The fact that they all are in new posiitons and learning the position goes to show the coaching staff isn't serious about fixing this issue. The playoffs become a long shot if this situation isn't corrected for the long haul and the defense will continue to suffer and have games similar to tonight if they have to spend the majority of the game on the field chasing turnovers just to have a chance to win a game.

They held the Texans to 13 pts, and gave them a shot to win. That did not happen this week. They let the 49ers BACKUP QB lead 6 scoring drives. No pass, but they're definitely not entirely to blame. The offense did nothing to help them. This is what the Bears look like when the Defense isn't scoring points. It doesn't look good. Fact is, there isn't a QB in this league that could win games consistently behind our line. This game should have been digs, and curl routes, with a heavy dose of Bush running downhill, and play action deep. Forte did way too much dancing in the backfield against a defense that relentlessly pursues the ball. Way too many mid and deep outs for a QB with no time to throw. Our game plan and play calling sucked.

The defense most certainly should be given a pass for last night. Did they show up? No...But that doesn't erase the other 9 games where they were the only side of the ball that showed up for a full 60 minutes.

Defense had a bad game. So now the score is 1 bad game from the defense to 10 bad games from the offense. I think that means give the D a pass.

What happened last night though is something that has concerned me with this defense for a decade now. We give up a ton of yardage. A ton. We're pretty good at keeping the ball out of the endzone despite that fact, but they're only making their job harder by giving up so much yardage.

Yes. you can't expect a defense to play the way they do every week. I'm pretty sure they expected Smith to play so they didn't game plan for Kapernick(?).

What pisses me off is that this defense is starting to be questioned as a super bowl caliber defense.

Completely agree, Colin Kapernick made some ELITE throws. Throwing flag routes to WR in stride with only a few feet of sideline to work with is damn impressive. The O/L stinks, it's the worst unit in football. Until the Bears fix that with the right personnel and get it right in the draft, the offense will continue to underachieve.
