Yay or Nay: In 2 years, our Defense will be the worst

in the league?
I'd like to start a conversation which I think will become a problem in a few years.
Our defense.
All our "stars" on D are old, and are only getting older by the minute.
Urlacher - 34
Briggs - 32
Peppers - 32
Tillman - 31
Urlacher and Briggs look like molasses on the field, and aren't the tackling machines they used to be.
Peppers I'm still up in the air about. I'd like to say it's because he's always double-teamed, but he doesn't look as dominant as he did with Carolina.
I was never a big fan of Tillman, and the only reason he gets a lot of Forced Fumbles is because the receiver he's covering always catches the balls he's thrown to. He's definitely not a shutdown corner, and more like an undersized LB playing corner.
Our safeties are young, and very raw. The rest of our secondary is also young, or just not very good at all.
Tim Jennings shows some signs every now and then, but he also disappears alot during the games.
Our D-Line, minus Peppers is pretty laughable.
So what does that leave us with? Once the "big" 4 retires or are cut, our defense will look very weak.
Anyone else think this way? Or am I just basing this off my hatred for Urlacher, Briggs, and Tillman?

Briggs is having one of his best season.

Briggs is having one of his best season and Tillman is having his best season and will be in the top five for DPY this year.
Our safeties are young, and very raw. The rest of our secondary is also young, or just not very good at all.
With Jennings we have one of the best secondaries in the NFL.
Our D-Line, minus Peppers is pretty laughable.
Melton and Wotton are both very good. Melton should be a pro bowler and Wotton should would be a double digit sacker as a starter. Shea is a nice young player as are Pea and Toeina if they stay healthy.
So what does that leave us with? Once the "big" 4 retires or are cut, our defense will look very weak.
That's what the draft is for.

obviously this defense is old but by the time they all become worthless Emery would have already drafted their replacements two or three years from now. Also there's free agency.

This is impossible to know without knowing the coach. If Lovie is here, the defense will never be the worst.

Quit listening/taking seriously boers and bernstein, we have a solid amount of young talent, I think we are a linebacker away of being good to very good. Once the vets leave.
And i quote this response, because it is the truth.

Nay. There are lots of teams in the NFL whose best defensive players are older. But we have Tim Jennings(28), Shea McClellin(23), Henry Melton(26), DJ Moore(25), Stephen Paea(24), Nick Roach(27), Corey Wooton(25), and Matt Toeania(28).
Our defense may not be elite in 2 years, but it won't be the worst.

Dumb thread.
Briggs and Tillman have some time left in the tank. So does Peppers.
Urlacher won't ever be the same, but he's still got a year left, and depending on how his offseason/the Bears 2013 season goes, maybe more.
Assuming those guys all continue their decline and we don't pick ANYone else up, they'll still be at worst average.
And as NZB stated, we've got a slew of solid players that are 28 or under.
So, no.

Agreed. And i believe we will draft either a linebacker or corner in the second round this year to start the process of reloading.

This depends on one thing.. The consistent play of our D-line.. Wooten, She, Melton, Piea.. That is our future, if they can continue to develop and continue to get after the QB our D is golden.. Best part about Lovies D is you fit players into it based on certain skills. For intense, CB: we don’t need a shut down CB all we need is someone capable of tackling in space with the ability to read and react and willing and able to learn our scheme.. That fact make it easier to retool our D quickly and cheaply.. I feel as long as our youth continues to develop along the D-line we should keep a top 15 D

Tillman has one of the lowest opposing QBR (quarterback rating) in the league. QB's are scared to throw the ball in his direction. He's an elite corner..
Peppers draws constant double teams. He's not as effective as he was in his prime, but still a great player.
Melton is arguably the 2nd best player at his position in the league, behind Geno Atkins.
Briggs is having an unbelievable season.
Jennings leads the league in picks, despite missing like 3 games. Wright and conte have had an impact.
The Bears have tied an all time record for defensive TDs and lead the NFL in 40 turnovers generated. They have some old players, but a good mix of young and old. Conte, Wright, Melton, Wootton, Paea, Collins, McLellin are all young and effective.
I have no idea where this thread came from, but it's horribly misguided.

After this year the defense will be overhauled and this year is being used for evaluation.

Sadly, I think what is stated in the title of this thread can happen now that the new administration seems to be completely tunnel-visioned towards building a marginally above average offense.
I don't think they know what the f they're doing on that side.
Aside from Urlacher and Roach, the personnel is essentially the same as last year, but they seem to give up a lot more. I don't think it's as much the guys realizing they are old as much as it is bad scheming.

Who ever thought emery knew anything abut defense? The way he pussy footed around the urlacher situation to find our defense become a corpse of its potential is pretty disappointing but not totally unexpected.

+1. We are becoming the Kansas city chiefs circa their emery era.
