Jay Cutler ready to play out deal

Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler said Wednesday it appears he won't reach an agreement with the team on a contract extension, and the 2013 season will mark the final year of his current deal.

"Yeah, I think that's probably the way we're headed," Cutler said on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000. "We haven't really talked about anything.

"We're upgrading in certain positions and I don't think we're really in position to do my deal. But like I said, [general manager Phil Emery] has a plan worked out, so we'll just have to see what happens. But I'm perfectly comfortable in the situation I'm in, and if we go into it with just this last year, then so be it. I'll play it out and we'll see what happens at the end of the year."

The Bears extended Cutler after acquiring him in a trade with the Denver Broncos before the 2009 season. The extension was worked out during the season and Cutler has said he'll never do that again, preferring to negotiate during the offseason.

Cutler said Wednesday he'd love to stay with the Bears, and he lauded the free-agent acquisitions of offensive tackle Jermon Bushrod and tight end Martellus Bennett on Tuesday.

Asked if he'll feel more pressure playing on the last year of his deal, Cutler said: "Being a quarterback -- and there are a lot of teams out there if it doesn't work out -- I want to stay here, I love the situation I'm in.

I look at it as the opportunity as a whole. Coach [Marc] Trestman coming in, Phil doing the best possible job to upgrade the entire team, offensively us getting better, a new system, I think there's enough on my plate to kind of keep my mind occupied without having to worry about my deal."

I wonder if Cutler will be so amicable in the Superbowl game? :eyebrows:

This is what I'm hoping for. He has a pro-bowl caliber season but doesn't get voted in. We win the SuperBowl but Cutler has an average game. We sign him to a 5year/60mil deal.

DT Nate Collins is back with the #Bears on a 1-year deal for the league minimum.

Jeff Dickerson ‏@ESPNChiBears
#Bears opted not to tender Collins as a restricted free agent, but wanted him back at a lower price.

The Chicago Bears re-signed defensive tackle Nate Collins to a one-year deal for the league minimum of $715,000.

The Bears opted not to offer Collins a restricted free agent tender, but they clearly wanted him back at a reduced price.

I know it was speculation by Chicago media, but anyone think that Emery will try and restructure Tillman and Peppers contracts? That would help us out big time if they agreed to less per year for more long term security.

Raiders sign LB Nick Roach

The Oakland Raiders agreed to terms with Chicago Bears free-agent linebacker Nick Roach, according to an NFL source.

Terms of the deal are unknown but it's believed the Raiders offered a multi-year deal worth between $3 to $4 million per year.

The Raiders flew Roach to Oakland on Wednesday for an official visit and presented the versatile linebacker with a strong offer late Thursday afternoon.

A six-year veteran, Roach has started in 59 career games, spending the majority of his career as Chicago's starting strongside linebacker.

I'm actually happy Roach is gone. Was never really a fan and I think he was just mediocre playing next to two Hall of Famers.

I think this pushes us into drafting a LB in round 1 which was my preference :)

Roach played well, but agree he isn't a huge loss as system and who he played with I think helped him out. Think Warrick Holdman.

I think Tillman could be restructured. I've seen articles on Peppers restructuring and you could free up a lot doing it, but your just putting a big hit farther down the line so that's likely a last resort.

I think the Bears should go after Daryl Smith. He's been a great OLB and he already knows the system. He might come cheap because no one is really giving him any attention. He could be one of those late FA signings.

JT Thomas showed some promising signs last preseason. Hopefully he'll step it up to the next level this year. I wonder if this means the imminent return of Urlacher. I hope he comes back , for if no other reason than to mentor our next wave of incoming linebackers. It does appear as though linebacker could be a first round priority, but that seems too obvious so I'll bet it doesn't happen. There are going to be some good cap-casualty bargains later in free agency, maybe some guys that thought they'd get more but have to settle once the market drys up. It will be interesting to see who else we target. I hope a veteran safety, Conte/Wright/Hardin/Steltz doesn't impress me and is extremely injury prone.

Gahhh. I really would've preferred to sign Nick Roach and not have to spend a 1st rounder on a LB.

Free agent defensive end Turk McBride is scheduled to visit the Chicago Bears on Tuesday, according to a league source.

McBride played in only 15 combined games for the New Orleans Saints the past two seasons but started eight games for the Detroit Lions in 2010 when he had a career-high 5.0 sacks. McBride spent his first three seasons in the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs and has 9.5 career sacks.

The Bears could be looking at McBride in the event the club does not re-sign veteran free agent defensive lineman Israel Idonije. Bears general manager Phil Emery said at the NFL combine the team wanted to talk with Idonije about coming back, but possibly at a reduced price.

It doesn't look like Idonije will return.

The Chicago Bears and Houston Texans are the frontrunners to land former Kansas City Chiefs blocking tight end Steve Maneri, a league source told ESPNChicago.com.

The Chicago Tribune first reported the Bears' interest in Maneri.

Maneri started eight games and played over 400 snaps for the Chiefs last season.

The Cincinnati Bengals and Dallas Cowboys have also expressed interest in the 6-foot-6, 280-pound tight end, but the Bears and Texans have been the most aggressive suitors, the source said.

I guess they're looking for a cheaper version of Spaeth after he returned to the Steelers.

Well that sucks, but he's not critical. Assuming good health, Peppers, McClellin and Wootton is a pretty nice rotation at DE. At in Cheta Ozukwe, or whatever his name is as well. He showed some flashes.

Spaeth was absolutely terrible at blocking last uear. Just little to no effort. I've heard about Maneri being an excellent blocker before. And not that it means anything, but Madden 13 has him rated as pretty much the best overll blocking TE lol

Well, maybe Idonije will be back after all:

49ers, Bears Pursuing Israel Idonije

The San Francisco 49ers are interested in signing defensive end Israel Idonije.

Idonije has been with the Chicago Bears since 2004 and the team is trying to re-sign him.
