*BREAKING* Bears won't re-sign Urlacher

Post#2 » by JDRochholz » Wed Mar 20, 2013 10:35 pm

Jeff Dickerson ‏@ESPNChiBears
Over and out for Brian Urlacher in Chicago after 13 seasons. #Bears

Jeff Dickerson ‏@ESPNChiBears 10m
Do believe #Bears made Urlacher an offer to return, but it was a low money deal, in the range of 1-year, $2 million.

Ugh. Hate to see him go. He will be missed. Not sure who is in the wrong here as far as salary....

Saw he got offered 1 year at 2 mil. Don't know if he's that bad, but I don't know what Urlacher expects in the open market. Good luck to him and to us.

I probably would have been willing to give him 2 years at between 5 and 6 million (total, not per). The guy was amazing in his prime. He's very clearly not the same player though. Even when he is on the field he hasn't really been an impact player for a couple years.

^ so now they have the biggest holes on their d. Plus we have trash players like costonzo and decicco being millionaires but we only muster 2 mil for a hof LB who was our leadi g tacker before his injury.
How can we even replace roach now?
Have u heard the stupidity that the bears may draft a dlineman in rhe first or second?
at work so i cant get into it as much as i like

But anyways, it was time. As I've said all off-season, we should not have let Roach walk. Now we are put in a position where if we want to spend the rest of our cap space on our guys we need to find a replacement for linebacker in the draft, possibly our first rounder. Roach would've done fine, if not better than Urlacher's performance this season. :banghead:

What other guys are making isn't really relevant to what he's worth.

I would have liked to have seen a little more flexibility, but not much. Spending much more than that on him would have been really unwise. We find a B level starter in FA, go LB round 1, OG/C round 2 I doubt we miss a beat.

Fine with the decision. 2m might be a bit lowball, but this team is not in any shape to cave in to these types of deals. What with Peppers cap hit next year, and with a precious little amount of cap space left, this was the right choice. It's a shame Roach left, since we could've definitely used him. Don't exactly like the prospect of 2 rookie LBs starting, though the team will probably draft an LB in the 2nd or 3rd, and get a veteran for the other spot. Can't risk going for an LB in the first with the OL issues still glaring. They need Louis back.

It sucks real hard. I loved 54 as much as any other person, but it's better he left sooner than later. There is no point in having a stopgap LB on the decline playing for a team that probably won't contend next year. This team had more tied in the LB positions than most teams over the past several years.

What a difference a couple weeks makes. Could be a frustrating year.

Bears will get flack for how it went down, but I'll.never doubt that it was the right decision for the franchise- both financially and team leadership-wise. By that I mean that Lovie's old boys might get in the way of this new coaching staff.

I firmly believe Urlacher is done, much like Kreutz was. Urlacher just expected them to give him one last payday. Bears were smart though and made the tough decision.

Roach really didn't impress many people. Emery obviously feels like he can do better with their money and draft picks.

I'd don't get how the Bears rather keep scrubs like Garza and not Urlacher. They could've cut him and use that money on Urlacher. Urlacher was having a Pro-bowl alternate type season before the injuries started coming in.

Sorry, no he wasn't. He was on pace for a lower amount of tackles than his 2008 campaign, which was undoubtedly his worst season until that point.

Have we forgotten those articles about Urlacher pretty much playing the role of cheerleader because of his non-existent impact in some games? It was partly down to the Bears defense feasting on a weak schedule, and also because Urlacher is clearly a player in decline.

He could've been useful, sure, but not at the price he was asking. Most I'd give him would be 3m, and even that is a stretch.
