Bears sign James Anderson

The Bears just added former Carolina Panthers strong-side linebacker, James Anderson.

So much for switching to 3-4 or using Urlacher's money to sign "bench riding scrubs" 8-)

Idk. We still don't have any interior linemen that are really starters. Carimi, Brown, Garza, Williams. And we have Bushrod, Webb and Brandon as tackles. Idk how that will work out.

I'd we need to add at least two more starters to the line through FA or draft. We also still need a nickel corner, a speed receiver, defensive tackle and young middle linebacker. That's 6 more players I think we need and we have 5 picks.

I think we have about $1M left in cap space. And something tells me Garza, Hester amd Steltz will be cut, which would save us about $4.6M.

To answer your question, I don't think so. Unless something happens in FA, we still have glaring holes on the offensive line.

But it seems like they want to keep Hester. Steltz is the only one I can see being cut for sure.

I think if they can get replacements for Garza and Hester in the draft then they will be gone. For Garza that would be somebody like Jones or Schwenke. For Hester it would be somebody like Tyrann Mathieu or Marquise Goodwin who would both fill another need (nickel corner and speed receiver respectively).

But I agree that Steltz is definitely gone. I'm expecting at least one of the following to be signed before the draft: Louis, Moore, Booth, McKinnie. And I think we will end up with at least two of the four.

Moore seems pretty likely. Wouldn't mind him and Antoine Winfield as last two signings before the draft.

I didn't even think about Winfield. That would be a great pickup if he's willing to play nickel corner on a cheap deal. Moore is my top choice out of all the linemen available so I really hope we can get him. I think teams are afraid to sign Louis so he will be available after the draft, and for cheap. I definitely want to bring him back if possible.

 at your last sentence  .

To be honest, our LB core may be a better unit next season compared to this past season. Lance Briggs has been our best LB for a few years now.

Looking at the spots we have to fill, I have to believe Emery thinks they can be filled on the second or third day. Speed WR, interior OL, nickel CB. I think we'll see BPA rd1 and rd2, maybe with a trade down. Rds 4-6 we'll look to fill those roles left (if they aren't filled in rd1 or 2.

If there is a FA like Moore we probably still have some flexibility to create room like extending Melton to lower this years cap hit, or cutting Garza. I have a bad feeling they are keepimg Garza even though Edwin Williams probably can't be worse. It really should be a no brainer.

Lol I that you'd like that.

I agree that we will most likely see better linebacking play next season.

@Haley, don't forget that we only have three DTs and probably still need a LB too since Williams is on a one year deal. If we can pickup Moore and another OL then I will agree with you.

And I'll be extremely upset if we keep becuase I agree that Williams should be able to perform just as well. And there are really good centers in this draft.

The LB corp is better than last year no. Urlacher was done and Roach was meh.

Garza can be replaced next year. Right now we need two guards.

Return to Chicago Bears
