If Meltons goes on IR is some 3-4 a reasonable option? And put in bostic?

This could be possibly be Meltons last game as a bear . He will be a FA next season and the franchise tag seems less likely.

Here's a list of your scrap pile:

Sione Po'uha
Richard Seymour (DE in 3-4)
Corey Williams
Shaun Cody
Rocky Bernard
Spencer Johnson
Ron Edwards
Antonio Garay
Ty Warren (DE in 3-4)
Casey Hampton
Anthony Hargrove (DE in 3-4)
Ma'ake Kemoeatu
Antonio Dixon
Trevor Laws
Shaun Smith
Marvin Austin
Matt Toeaina
Andre Fluellen
Ryan McBean
Eric Foster
Daniel Muir
Torell Troup
Ron Brace
Ogemdi Nwagbuo
Jarron Gilbert
Myron Pryor
Corvey Irvin
Frank Okam
Brian Price
Will Tukuafu
Jerrell Powe
Kyle Love
Lamar Divens
Ra’Shon “Sunny” Harris
Landon Cohen
Sealver Siliga
Andre Neblett
Brian Schaefering
Jeris Pendleton

Toeania seems like the logical choice, assuming he's healthy. He's played fairly well in the system before. Garay was also with us for a little bit. Most 'intriguing' idea would be Tommie Harris, who worked out for Tampa a few months back. He's only 30 years old, and it looks like he's still in Chicago. Would at least be worth a look.

Seymour and Garay should be at the top of our list. Then benard, Cody, Hampton and Toeaina....

Maybe we should look at some bad teams as trade partners as well.

Justin Tuck from the Giants? He played DT when they won the super bowl in 2007 and played really well. Or McCoy from the Bucs?

Crappy loss, but how much worse can the DL really play after the first 3 games?

The names that stick out from that list to me :
Seymour, Ty Warren, Caey Hampton, maybe even Marvin Austin.

Pass on Toeina.

I never understand when young players string out negotiations and end up taking the franchise tag vs a some less cash but gaining security. To me, take less in year 4 and get security. Then hold out later in your career.
He's never going to make up what he turned down this summer.

Do we know how far apart each side were on negotiations?

It's official...
Henry Melton has a torn ACL, according to an ESPN report, ending his season and sending the Bears looking for another defensive tackle.

I would like to bring back Amobi Okoye. Not saying he is a pro bowler but every time I watched over the last 2 years I felt he was solid. He actually got some pass rush as a 3rd down DT. I would not mind having him in the fold. I am guessing he is 26 or 27 so he is still young enough to make an impact.

Meh. He's an old man and probably isn't in great football shape. Cliff Levingston is sure that Emery will find the right guy though.

Its like a funeral around here. Im surprised Cliff Levingston is so even keel in the face of adversity.

This loss sucks. Best of luck to Melton. Hopefully he can come back strong next year and retain that Pro Bowl level athleticism and skill. Hopefully we can re-sign him too.
