NFL.com Analysis

Strengths
Very good athlete. Good body control and balance. Feels blocking pressure and finds the ball quickly. Effective spin move. Shoots gaps and makes plays behind the line. Flattens down the line and can range to the sideline. Strong tackler and athletic enough to string down backs in space. Outstanding career sack production (20.5) from the interior.

Weaknesses
Short. Questionable competitiveness and desire -- motor runs hot and cold. Will disappear for stretches. Has some underachiever traits and work ethic has a lot of area for improvement. Average strength at the point of attack. Can be turned and rooted out of the hole by the double team. Can improve hand use and develop more of a pass-rush arsenal.

Bottom Line
Bulked up and added a lot of bad weight as a senior, negating his initial burst and diminishing his production, yet still showed good quickness off the ball. Played at a more natural weight and was noticeably a step quicker in 2012. Fits best as an under tackle in an even front and would be best playing close to 290 pounds.

I really like this pick. Keep his weight down and this should be a great find in round 3.

I always thought he has the talent to be a end of the 1st to 2nd rounder but I thought he would drop to the fourth because of his decline in his senior year.

I think we should have gone Desir here. He will be shutdown.

Word is that he played much better lighter in 2012. Had 13 sacks. Found an article touting his hand work and moves. Knocks seem to be his increase in weight and the whole 'disappearing' criticism. Emery intrigues me with his picks, I'll give him that. Time will tell. Lots of stories to follow this year.

I dig it. Make sure he gets to his lighter/quicker weight and he should be a good 3-Tech. We have some decent depth on the DLine now. Would like a S still, but nothing too glaring left. A Safety and some offensive depth.

Safety depth was weak this year. Good that Emery is loading up on line and CB talent. More important to overall success than safeties IMO.

I'm loving these last 2 picks & the competition it sets up at DT. I wanted Sutton in round 2. Couldn't be happier getting him in the 3rd. We should pick up a RB in the 4th and BA after that

why can't every GM totally retool an offensive and defensive line into effective units in just 2 years?

You don't appreciate the tap water in Chicago until you go somewhere else and try theirs.

If it works we got Traylor and Washington all over. (which would be a darn good thing)

This is so wrong. Sutton was at his best under 300 and is currently 290. Ferguson is big, but still about 35-50 pounds under Traylor/Washington.

And Traylor/Washington would not be good.

Traylor and Washington were about 700lbs conservatively. Those are my kinds of huge linemen BTW. Different era. Defense is played lighter and faster now. But I bnver liked being on the lightest smallest side of the spetrum. O Lines crush your people into cripples over the years

Here's some Keith Traylor love for fun, though.

After finishing high school as a two-time All-American, Traylor originally signed with the Oklahoma Sooners. A 6-3, 250 pound linebacker who ran the 40 yard dash in 4.57 seconds,[5] assistant coach Merv Johnson called Traylor a "tremendous physical specimen," and an "exciting, high-profile recruit."

Maybe Sutton can aspire to one day eat himself into a NT also.

best thing about the Sutton pick is that it came right before the Packers took DT Khyri Thornton. I'm sure Thornton was their man all along

All about this pick. Dude had 13 sacks & 23 TFL his junior year. Just like Alshon he had a down year due to weight issues. Look at that motor.
