NFL.COM ANALYSIS

Strengths
Outstanding two-year production -- piled up 3,814 yards and 42 touchdowns on the ground from 2012-13, ranking among the nation's most prolific. Terrific compete level and determination -- runs with energy, doesn’t go down easily and punctuates runs. Tries to punish tacklers and keeps his legs pumping -- grinds out yards after contact. Good feet, acceleration and lateral agility. Spins off contact. Reliable shot receiver. Gets upfield with urgency after the catch and has enough shiftiness to create. Willing to throw a shoulder blow into rushers. Can handle a heavy workload -- averaged 26 carries per game the last two seasons.

Weaknesses
Lacks ideal size and has a narrow, high-cut build with a lean lower body. Upright running style exposes his body to some direct hits and durability could be an issue. Does not string moves together and does not have elite breakaway speed. Average wiggle and elusiveness (cuts off his heels). Faced light boxes in a spread, zone-read offense. Had nearly 850 touches in college and body has already endured a lot of punishment. Has been removed from some team boards for off-the-field transgressions/suspensions.

Bottom Line
Highly productive, hard-charging slasher who runs more competitively than he does powerfully and picks up yardage in chunks. Has some first-round traits and is one of the most instinctive runners in this year's draft class, though his stock could be affected by off-the-field troubles.

So what are these off-field troubles and are they something to really worry about?

Like the player, a little bit small for every down, and I am still waiting for a safety. Should add depth and contribute as third down back who can catch.

Put up monster stats in college... but in addition to the supposed off field issues he had a mediocre combine.

Sounds like she was blocking the door. He was trying to get away... Jurassic Park style.

Watching this guy's highlights remind me of Ray Rice in two ways. The first is that he has a lot of power for a little guy. The second is how elusive he is inside the tackles. He follows blockers very well and is hard for defenders to locate and bring down. If Forte goes down, I think we can still mount a decent rushing attack with Carey in a few spot starts. I think it is easy to overvalue top end speed in RBs, when it is rare that one gets in to top gear or open field situations all that often (Chris Johnson). I would much rather have a guy that can get you 8 yards off one cut and a should shake than a guy who can run 4.3 that one time every 5 games he gets a perfectly blocked play. Kadeem Carey looks like a very good prospect in every category except breakaway speed.

I'm not overly concerned about his 40 time. He runs between the tackles. No breakaway speed whatsoever, but he's a terrific pass protector, can catch the ball out of the backfield. Very productive. He'll fit right in with the system. He'll make a solid backup to Forte. Good pick.

So likely will be good to bring in on short yard plays?

I'm thinking he's taking Michael Bush's reps from last year so he'll probably be called on in 3rd & 1 situations.

I like the pick. I don't follow college at all, but most good running teams play 2 running backs, we'll put less miles on Forte, and the better our run game is, the less interceptions Jay will throw.

just watching the draft shows and the highlights of RBs taken after, it seems like there was opportunity to take faster guys who were just as good with a speed dimension. But, I guess you have to trust Emery.

This guy is tough as nails, excellent receiver and solid blocker. He's a 3 down back. Always seems to fall forward, ala Gio Bernard. He plays much faster in pads than his combine time would show. Very good vision as well.

Solid successor to Forte.

This appears to be a roster guy with limited upside. He isn't a starter if you can help it imo. Definately not a standout starter that beats other teams. He may fill a hole when the stud is injured, and/or plays special teams. Maybe he can beat out Ford.

He doesn't look good enough to be a sole successor to Forte, but I think he could be a nice part of a 2 or 3 man rotation. They are saying he has pass catching and blocking skills which is important in today's NFL and for Trestman.

On another note, he came off pretty bad in his conference call with the media. Hopefully though the character issues are behind him- try not to read too much into a 10 minute phone conversation.

I've been trying to figure out who he reminds me of superficially. Adrian Peterson. The Bears Adrian Peterson.
TBH I don't remember what kind of blocker/receiver Peterson was. I vaguely remember that he could block. Don't think he was a receiver. Just talking the running portion. IDK. He may be the pass receiving capable version of Peterson
