Marshall tweeted that the extension is worth $30 million. Marshall is under contract for $9.3 million for the 2014 season--$9.1 million in base salary and a $200,000 workout bonus. So that positions him to earn $39.3 million from the Bears over the next four seasons.

Emery doesn't mess around! This is great news and now both parties don't have to worry about it next off-season.

23 million guaranteed I think. High percentage. Hope he stays healthy. Definately, Forte will be gone either next year or year after that unless he takes a huge paycut. Alshon will need to be paid in a couple years

The Bears will need to keep stocking the team with cheap draft picks. If they want to keep winning they better hit on those picks.

Hopefully Carey shows something good this year as a potential replacement if it has to come to that with Forte.

I like the extension - a lot. That said, Marshall's going to do well if only because other teams cannot ignore Alshon Jeffrey and Matt Forte.

The deal Matt Forte has goes through 2015, so losing Forte is not an immediate worry. That's eight seasons with Da Bears total, which is pretty long for a RB. However, Forte just posted a career high in rushing yards, receptions, and receiving yards. I am disinclined to let him walk, particularly for nothing in return. I may overvalue Bears players, but Forte, I think, is worth a first-round pick at least.

Jeffrey's deal goes through 2016, per Sportrac. So... I think an extension is a priority for a little down the road.

Even though it's not an immediate concern, I'd consider getting Forte and Jeffrey signed to extensions a high priority. I don't want to see them walk the way that McCown did.

The Marshall extension is a good move, but again, I have to wonder if the big contract Cutler got isn't going to hamper the team down the road. He's averaging $17.5 million. Was he worth that figure? I am not sure, I'd have pegged him at about $13.5M per year, especially given his injuries the last two seasons. Probably enough to keep McCown in the fold.

IDK, it hard to see anyone giving up a 1st round pick for an almost 30 year old RB. He will be 30 when his contract comes up in 2015.

In reality, the thing you get back after the 2015 season is the $8.8 million he counts against the cap that year. We will be able to bring him back or take that cash and fill holes elsewhere and draft another young RB.

I don;t think you know how trade value works in the NFL. When Boldin was a top 7 WR he was traded for like 5th or 6th then he got traded for a 6th after he was a major part to the Ravens winning a SB. Unless you're a QB or the without a doubt beat player at your position you're not getting a 1st.

Yeah. Also, I think age makes a difference for the RB and WR position. Last year the Colts were able to get a 1st rounder for Trent Richardson.

No one is going to giveup a 1st rounder for an aging RB, especially when they generally start to hit the wall and start declining at age 30. Not when you can get a good one in the 2nd and 3rd round.

WR have a longer shelf life, but you can always find very good ones in the 2nd and 3rd round as well. Jeffrey and Marshall them selves are great examples.

heck nobody will draft a running back in the first period, let alone trade a first for an old RB who is used to making a truckload of money. Forte is going to be cut someday. For cap. Maybe as soon as Alshon comes up. As early as next summer.

During a training session, Brandon Marshall , at 30, shows he still has speed and runs 22 mph on a treadmill.

Didn't chad Johnson run like 29 at an older age?

Not quite 29, Chad ran 24 mph at the age of 34. It's still fast for an older WR

22 mph on a treadmill isn't nearly as impressive as 22 mph on a football field. The game is played on a football field.

This reminds me of the video of Jarron Gilbert jumping out of a pool. It's cool and all, but it doesn't make someone a good football player.
