http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap200000 ... d-torn-acl "I tore my ACL today for the third time today!" Hixon wrote. "I'm disappointed that I won't be playing for a Bears team that has the players and coaches to win the Super Bowl. I thank God for letting me live my dream of playing in the NFL for 8 years plus. It has truly been fun!"
Very very sad. He has a lot of talent but could never be healthy.

Some good FAs out there:
Davone Bess
Santonio Holmes
Danario Alexander (also has terrible knees but I can't remember if he got hurt last year or not.)
Joshua Cribbs
We will most likely put Marquess Wilson in at the slot but we should definetly sign a a proven guy just-in-case Wilson isn't ready.

If the bears decide to trade for someone these are some guys we might be able to get for low draft picks:
Danny Amendola
Eddie Royal
Cecil Shorts
Rueben Randle

If Wilson takes the next step Hixon wouldn't have seen much of the field anyways. Also it looks like Williams is winning the special teams battle. Minor set back for Da Bears.

From espn:
The confidence the staff seems to have in Chris Williams taking over as Chicago's primary return man seems warranted after taking a good look at him during Tuesday's workout. He's easily the quickest among the team's receiving corps. During Williams' time in the Canadian Football League, he scored a record six return touchdowns and generated 1,117 punt return yards. At training camp, he's definitely a player folks should keep an eye on.

He ran a 40 Low of 4.24 at New mexico State.

I'm interested in seeing if Trestman uses him for some long down field routes. With all the attention Marshall, Jeffery and Bennett will garner from opposing secondaries, he could potentially do some damage. He seems to have good hands from some of those clips.
Man, the season can't get here soon enough!

He probably wouldn't have made the team anyway. Marshall, Jeffery, Wilson are all locks. Morgan is a much better receiver, Weems is a better special teamer, and it's been made pretty clear it's Williams job to lose as a returner.
It sucks and it probably means his career is over. But it's no big loss.

I truly dislike Weems' game and was hoping he would lose out in the WR battle.

He still may. Very possible they only carry 5 WR with all the quality special teams depth on defense.

I'm hoping Chris Williams is our return guy and also snags the #4 WR spot. He can be that Jonny Knox guy that takes the top off the defense. I really would like to see him in a 4 WR/1TE empty backfield set. 3 huge targets and one burner down the sideline.
Emery has done a great job in finding pieces to fill holes. Surely some won't work out, but its nice to have a GM that actually tries. makes you wonder what the heck JA was doing with his time.

How about those reverses Alshon ran last year? Chris Williams is really small and may not have the easiest time getting off the line of scrimmage, but he seems like he is lightning fast and is a dangerous open field runner. Putting him in that role a snap or two per game may erase one potential weakness while magnifying his strengths at the same time.

“I’m a lot stronger,” Wilson said. “I’m 207 right now. I put on 10 pounds. I gained a little bit of muscle, a ltitle bit of weight. It helped out both in strength and speed. I gained power in my legs.”
Wilson has made his presence known in OTA scrimmaging without pads with some impressive catches.
“Those two guys are two of the best in the business,” Wilson said. “You’ve got those two on the outside and me coming in, that can open up a lot.”

It's crazy to think that like a little over 2 years ago Cutler was throwing to the likes of Devin Hester and Kellen Davis with Earl Bennett and Johnny Knox being the best receivers he could rely on.
Now he has 3 big athletic receivers and a big athletic TE.
