James Brown has left the building

Cornerback Isaiah Frey and Guard James Brown were cut today to get down to 75.

I really liked Brown. I'm sure he's going to stick somewhere and play for a while.
Surprised about Frey. Seemed like the coaches were high on him not too long ago. I guess we'll be drafting a CB in round 1 or 2 next year. :nonono:

I thought Frey was good last year in a back up role.

And that leaves Jeffery as the only good pick in that draft.

Let's all hope that this year and last year's draft turns out much better.

They were both quality back ups. You knew that we'd be cutting a decent corner though. If we're keeping five CBs, and you're starting with Peanut, Jennings, Fuller and Hayden... that means you're only keeping one of Frey, CJ Wilson, McMannis and Jean-Louis. I think McMannis is the best of those last four... but the other three are worthy of being on an NFL roster IMHO.

McManis is obviously being kept for his special teams play. That's a no-brainer.

Do you think they would keep 6? Either way... I don't think Frey being cut means he was a bad pick or a failure of a player... he just happened to be fighting for a more competitive roster spot.

Kelvin Hayden is 31 and coming off of an injury. I really wish Frey was on the roster instead.

having such a poor draft thrown into a generally good GMing performance otherwise could be the difference for Emery between being a playoffs team and getting to the Super bowl. Just a couple guys plugging holes here and there and better depth would have been nice. Superbowl teams often have a series of above average draft years strung together before they make the jump. I hope the Bears aren't one more good draft away, but they probably are.
