Bears release G Matt Slauson and S Antrel Rolle

Post#1 » by City of Trees » Sun May 1, 2016 10:57 pm

Wow didn't see the Slauson release coming. Some say health concerns moving forward may have been the motivation here. Guess we can pencil in Whitehair at LG on opening day

I knew the Whitehair drafting had to do with Slauson, but I'm surprised they just out right released him.

I bet Pace probably tried to move him for a late round pick after having drafted Whitehair.

They will be spending that money on a tight end possibly. Dont know what is out there. They need a veteran DB now to play corner or safety. Wondering if Fuller is an option as a safetry if the Bears can find a corner.

They must be in love with their rookies, or Rolle is done anyway.

I won't be surprised if Leno is the LG and Whitehair is the LT. The best tackle is gonna be there of the 2.

I'm not surprised by the Rolle release. He wasn't any good last year.

They do have the cap space. Just not sure what vets and TE are available.

Im guessing prosinski is going to be our starter until Bush is ready to step in. I think Larsen will also win a starting job

You're calling Larsen over Whitehair?

I was going to say both because either Larsen or Lang would play RT. I forgot we signed Massie. Remembering that I'll take Whitehair over Larsen starting

I hope we sign Walter Thurmond to a one year deal. I didn't see too many eagles games but I've heard from analysts that he had a great season at Saftey. That would give us a great safety combo while wanting for bush to grow. He'd most likely come cheap

That should put the Bears around $26.8M in cap space

Yeah, me neither.

Who's our C next year then?

Slauson is still a good player. May have been a better idea to let training camp decide who stays and who goes.

What notable FA are left that the Bears could sign?

I wonder if they would still try and make a move for Wilkerson?

don't forget, they want to lock up Alshon too. The signing bonus will be Uuge

True, but wouldn't that clear up more cap space considering Alshon currently was slated to make 14 mil next year? Assuming his first year is around 8-9 or something like that.

Yep. Jeffery accounts for $14+M against the cap right now.

TE pool is pretty blah. Bears could target ex-Packer Andrew Quarless?

Just realized...I'm assuming they have full confidence in Grasu starting at C next year.
