Since the season is officially over and the wheel will really start Turing on FA I thought I we should have a thread that we could keep our opinions and FA rumors separate from everything else.

I have doubts it passes. Sports is king and in a football town like Chicago it has no chance. Plus it might not even be legal.

Other could pass and it's definitely legal. Demaurice Smith is a jackass. Most states don't have workers compensation for most athletes. A bunch that do have workers comp for athletes have a limit based on a number of WEEKS. Workers comp was designed to compensate injured workers for the expected lost income. The fact that privately athletes get workers comp til age 67 in Illinois is crazy.
And since most states don't have workers comp for athletes, or have workers comp that only lasts a designated number of weeks, the age 35 limit would sill be much more than most states give. Florida and Texas are two of the state's I remember don't give workers comp to athletes. Tampa Bay, Miami, Jacksonville, Houston, Dallas - no workers comp. Demaurice Smith doesn't open his dumbass mouth calling any of those organizations cheap.
He needs to be more educated about the laws before he makes statements like this, because even if it's passed, players will get workers comp after working for the Bears than they would with almost any other organization.

Why isn't this addressed as part of the CBA if he is so concerned?

Why pass up the chance to stick taxpayers with the tab?

I haven't read any story past the headline but I feel like an ageism case could be made. Then again I have no idea what I'm talking about.

I think you underestimate the anti-worker sentiment currently in politics. And why wouldn't it be legal?

I would think that you could take them to court and easily make it an age discrimination thing. But idk I haven't looked into it at all so I know little about the subject

The only two conclusions I can come to are that Demaurice Smith hates Chicago, or he is dumb, or he doesn't care enough to actually learn about the benefits his players are legally entitled to.

Didn't expect the bears to go after a WR in free agency but he'd be a great pick up. Could also be a back up plan in case we lose Alson.
Also just realized we got like a month to resign him and we haven't heard any news.

http://den.247sports.com/Bolt/Report-Aqib-Talib-could-be-on-chopping-block-51268423I was saying he'd probably get released because of how much great depth that secondary has and it sounds like it's going to happen. He jumps to the top of my FA list if he does get released
