Malcolm Butler CB from NE, Belichick benched him for unknown reasons and put safteys on the Eagles slots in the SB. Would be great pick up for Bears.

I think he'd be a great addition, but I am very curious about the benching.

Heres a report about the reason for the benching

CB David Amerson has just been cut. 6'3" 205lbs 26years old. Sat out most of the season with a concussion and then foot injury.

In 2015 he had 27 pass deflections, 4ints, 1ff, 1td.

He was a cap casualty.

I think hes overrated. Not that he's bad, but he's gonna get number 1 money but I don't think he's a number 1 guy. He got beat a lot this season

Well he is tied with Gilmore and ranked ahead of Jalen Ramsey and Desmond Trufant plus he has been to 3 SBs. Pairing him with Fangio should make him even better.

He's tied/ahead of them in what? Whatever it is doesn't he's better. Those three guys are way better than him.

That link takes me to playoff stats. The only thing that shows is that he had more tackles.

Thats what comes up for nfl player rankings under DB. It does record # of int etc. In any case on there he is ranked 23 along with Gilmore.

You need to do better research. They're tied for 23rd among DBs in playoff tackles with 10. Truant ranked 25th with 9. Ramsey ranked 26th with 8.

Playoff tackles. That's your reason for claiming Butler is better than the other guys.

Btw he also played in more playoff games than the other guys lol.

I like Dee Ford in free agency.

In the draft I like Harold Landry.

6 big-name players who could be cap casualties this offseason
https://www.thescore.com/nfl/news/1483877

I'd say all of them are likely except Dez and Mathieu. I'd be very shocked if Mathieu got cut

It also should be noted that Butler struggled against the Chiefs and leading up to the SB had poor performance in practice. With the Eagles running a similar style offense its possible Belichick tried to give the Eagles a different look as they would have undoutdedly reviewed the games against the Chiefs.

Brady also openly showed support for Butler, so I'm thinking it isn't anything that was in that article.

I'd take a look at him if I'm the Bears.

I don’t think our scheme is right for him. He’s great in run support and aggressive in the line of scrimmage but he’s not great in coverage. In a defense that plays a lot of man to man coverage we shouldn’t be paying top money for a guy who’s weakness is man to man coverage. He’s clearly an overall upgrade over our CBs I just don’t think we should be giving him 14 mil a year because of his coverage. The problem is someone will give him that. I can see the panthers, 49ers, and chiefs going really hard after him. He fits their schemes a lot better

If we want pass rushers, DeMarcus Lawrence and Zeke Ansha are to break the bank options. Obviously, their natural positions are DE but both are athletic enough to be elite OLB pass rushers.

AJ mcarron will become a free agent so there's another obstacle to trading down if that was a serious goal for the bears.
