The 4-3 with current Bears personnel...

Post#1 » by clancyphile » Tue Feb 12, 2019 8:19 pm

Just was kicking a thought around...

imagine if the Bears went back to a 4-3 with the following personnel:

DE: Bilal Nichols
DT: Akeem Hicks
DT: Eddie Goldman
DE: Roy Robertson-Harris
OLB: Leonard Floyd
MLB: Roquan Smith
OLB: Khalil Mack

Would it be better or worse than the current 3-4?

You’re essentially replacing Trevathan with RRH in the base lineup. I’m excited about RRHs potential, but I’d rather have Trevathan out there more than him.

Right answer, IMO. Also, in a 4-3, if Mack rushes the passer, you’re blitzing and leaving something open for the offense (yes, you can drop a d-lineman, but few are real good at it). In the 3-4, you can turn Mack loose and still have sound pass coverage.
