Since running Tank off gets the Bears down to 4 tackles not counting Ijnolie (sp) they need a replacement.
Briggs still says he'll sit out the first 10 games. And the Lions have a franchise player Cory Redding who is a top DT saying the same thing.
Redding's franchise tag is about the same as Briggs'; $6.8 million or so.
So it looks like about a push financially and if the teams won't agree with their own franchise player, why would they agree with another teams for about the same money?
Well, maybe it would be just because after going through one untenable situation each party might be a little more receptive to another alternative that was useful to them.
And in the Bear's case this would certainly be a useful alternative. With Johnson gone, they now probably need the DT more than they need Briggs anyway. And Redding is better than Johnson to begin with.
So the Bears could settle two serious situations with one move.
Get the Brigg's deal resolved and replace Tank with an upgrade.
How about it?
How about trading Briggs for a Tank replacement?

your post makes a lot of sense but it wouldnt happen because we're gonna be giving tommie a lot of money..................... he is so dominant that all we need is starting caliber talent (adams) with quality depth (dvoracek/FA/garay) lining up with him
the only way we pay bitchggs money to a defensive player would be to an an elite safety.........................most likely we'll adress the offense b/c jamar williams and mike okwo will take over the WLB and should develop quickly b/c they are being thrown into the fire
an offensive talent = to briggtch or picks is what i see angelo doing with briggs
