Devin Hester impact on offense

Chicago and now the national media is raving about Hester making plays in open space. 4.3/40 speed with wiggle, yeah that would improve any team's offense. A few other positives offensively... Grossman finally lining up in shotgun, an athletic TE w/ Olsen, Bradley looking more explosive on that knee, Berrian continuing his breakout campaign, etc.

I wonder what Hester can really provide us this season. I'm not a huge Ron Turner fan (I went to U of I), and I hope that Hester gets as many touches in space to change the tempo of our offense. I don't want to see those gay end-arounds or predictable screen passes.

At best, I'm looking at a solid WR3 who gives us glimpses of Steve Smith. Am I hoping for too much?

Nope. I see the same things. Hester is gonna shine this season. I actually thought he was going to get some burn on the defensive end coming into training camp, but once I heard he was lining up at WR, I immediately made him my fantasy sleeper.

one guy on the general board was going on about how he'd never even score 6 more TD's for the rest of his career or catch more then 100yards on offense in a single season. As soon as he hits 100 yards, i'll put that up on the general board again.

The same clown also said Dante Hall was a better return man.

I just got back from camp and Hester burned D. Manning so bad down the middle of the field. Absolutely smoked him.

Cutting edge
It's only 1st day of practice, but Hester dazzles as wide receiver

BOURBONNAIS -- Even in a practice setting, Devin Hester never ceased to amaze Friday during the Bears' first training camp session.

When Hester inhaled a pass and then made a quick head fake to leave big-money cornerback Nathan Vasher lunging for air, safety Mike Brown stood in the background just shaking his head in disbelief.

"It's nasty," Brown said of Hester's ability as a receiver. "He's a dangerous person in the open field. And [facing him] only is going to make us better in the secondary.

"I don't think there's anybody in the league

good heavens Ms Akamoto, If Bradley returns to the form he showed when healthy, I look at the pass catchers the Bears will roll out:

Bradley (legit burner)
Berrian (legit burner)
Hester (legit burner)
TE Olson (legit burner)

this kind of speed on one field is a fairy tale for any team in the NFL. For the Bears to have it has to be a joke. And add a quarterback who like to throw behind the safties is a bigger joke. Bombs away.

The happiest man besides Turner has to be Cedric Benson, who might be more effective than Neal Anderson with those receivers. Hes not going to be gang tackled much

fleetwood macbull wrote:what did it take for Miami to be so confused as to what to do with him? Or the NFL scouts for that matter? Or the Bears specifically? I don't doubt the hype because Lovie tends to keep expectations tamped down if at all possible. But this is strange.
they are comparing him to Steve Smith of all people

Devin played a little bit of both during his stay at Miami.

He WANTED to play defense. He wanted to be a DB just like Deion and was kind of stubborn. (I don't really blame him)

If you remember Lovie had to really talk him into shifting over to offense.

He's never really focused on offense or defense specifically. I don't even think he did last year. Lovie brought him along slowly with the return duties if you remember he didn't start returning kicks until what past midseason?

Cedric Benson is going to be hurting people next year regardless of what the WRs do. He has a HUGE chip on his shoulder & it's VERY obvious by his comments in the media. So many people are questioning his talent & durability.. I expect a HUGE season for him. Not to mention he is such a better fit for the offense than TJ was.

i dont like the move. i dont think hester should play at all, except on returns. minimize his chance for injury, and at the same time allow the better players to play positions

if you've been watching the camp highlights, you'll want hester on offense.

The catch he made laying on his back was pretty sick.

yeah, but its football. You can get hurt on ANY play or in practice any day. I think you put your best assets on the field as much as possible. This year NO ONE is going to kick it to Hester - he will be wasted if he's just a return guy.

Thanks, Darth. I feel like an idiot.

Are you afraid of 3rd down and 15 with Wolfe in the backfield, Olson at the TE, BB, Bradley, and Muhsin lined up at WR, heck throw Devin in the slot and go shotgun.

I don't even want to know why we end up in 3rd down and 15 but I wouldn't mind having Davis in there somewhere...

ah, I can't wait until we get to see Rex "**** it I'm going deep" Grossman again. Good times.
