WGN:Briggs' Lambo crashed; driver flees!

Just saw this on WGN news in the morning. Wonder if Lance made another stupid decision.
From the report it says a Lamborghini, registered to Lance Briggs, crashed at about 6400 N exit (Devon Ave). Can't tell which highway, just saw the sign that the car crashed under. The car was found smashed and without a driver present. The police are calling it a hit and run.
Here comes some major spin control!

From a second look the highway looks like I-94. Anybody pass by at about 3am? Thats when the crash was believed to have happened.
HERES THE LINK
"There was no indication that anyone was injured in the crash."
Phew! At least if it was Lance, our OLB is ok.
"Permanent Illinois license plates registering the vehicle to Lance Briggs were found inside."
"Police would not confirm whether the Lance Briggs to whom the car and plates are registered is the Bears linebacker. The vehicle had not been reported stolen..."
How many Lance Briggs are out there that can afford this car? ...coincidently heading towards the North suburbs where most of the Bears players live.

Cliff Levingston wouldn't be surprised if he was driving drunk, crashed and then fled so he couldn't be breathalyzed when cops got there. Not sure what sort of legal penalty he'll incur for leaving his crashed lambo on the side of the highway, but it can't be as bad as getting caught driving drunk... especially in the eyes of commissioner Roger.

What I'm sick of is the police running to the press everytime a celebrity is involved. I'm all in favor of athletes and celebrities getting the same treatment, but I'm just so sick of the local police office running to the damn press. If that car belonged to the head of the law firm I worked for (who makes much much more than the average Bear) the cops just visit his house in private and don't make a public show of it. I want equal treatment all the way around.

I'm with you Cliffy, probably drunk and made a bail-out decision rather than take it like a man. Two bad decisions doesn't make one good one.
I kinda feel for the Cops, they do all the grunt work, everybody hates them for it, and they get paid like crap. If you're a superstar, entertainment or sports, you should know that you are a role model. Becoming an age-old argument. Cops are Cops, they keep it in the family. Don't mind it, I get perks from my job that others wouldn't get; Cops just happen to work for the law.

I think the news receives reports on all accidents on the highways in the morning and throughout the day. And I'm guessing an abandoned Lamborghini would have stuck out like a sore thumb on that list no matter who the car was registered too. It's the decision of the broadcasters to decide what they report. I mean I'm not crazy about about police in Chicago but this really has little to do with decisions from them.
And yeah I'm guessing he immediately called for a friend to pick him up so as not to have to deal with possibly being breathalyzed and also because it was already 3 am and he didn't want to sit around a police station with practice today.

You really think the police didnt call the press to tell them who the car was registered to?

All non juvenile arrests are a matter of public record and are published in every county. Rich or poor. Celebrity or not. Lets face it, your arrest (or the arrest of the managing partner of the big firm) will get around to the people you don't want to know about it. It will be in the paper. If you are charged, its on the net.
I love it that celebrity f-ups are publicized. Makes us feel better about our own f-ups.
As for Briggs, what an amateur. Typical. Signs a big contract. Buys a 350,000 car and wrecks it before he even gets his tags. At least he was smart enough to get out of Dodge before the cops showed and arrested him for DUI. Prolly called his agent. Nothing like those 3 am calls from drunk clients.

You realize most DUIS,crimes, etc are printed in the paper the morning after, celebrity or not..right?

Yeah I do. But you guys realize that the police alert the press in something like this directly. Thats my issue.

What if Briggs gets arrested for hit and run, leaving the scene, avoiding arrest and crossing an interstate highway to escape. And is convicted and fined.
And Judge Roger suspends him for 8 games?
Does he lose half of his Franchise contract? $3.7 million approximately.
Yeh he would. Wouldn't that be awful?
He'd probably have to let the lambro go back. But he can't do that, its wrecked. He would really be screwed.
No wonder he thought he needed a long term contract $50 million guaranteed. He might not be around long.

Lester Munson, an attorney who does reports on CSN, was just on Comcast. He said he thinks Goodell will give Briggs a 2 game suspension for this.

Ok so Comcast sportsnet reported Briggs was charged for 3 things:
1) Improper lane usage
2) Not reporting an accident to the police
3) Fleeing the scene of an accident
The first two are plain traffic violations and the last one is a misdemeanor. Ouch. The first one I'm guilty of everyday, I'm sure the second one some of us have experienced, but the last one is what will get him the 2 game suspension. If hes convicted, which he won't, the main reason why police go tattle-tailing(they get furious superstars like Lance get away with things like this), then it only further hurts him for his chase for a big big contract.
Should've taken what the Bears offered, doesn't pay to be greedy, or stupid.

He won't serve any jail time for that, he'll plea guilty to it and pay a fine for it and then serve a suspension for violating the NFL's conduct policy. I know a lot of people don't like Goodell, but I'm happy to see the commish put his foot down and tell these guys to grow up or else.

That would be a ridiculos suspension IMO.

Why is that? Do you think he should get more than 2 games or do you think he shouldn't be suspended at all for breaking the law? He crashed his car, he was likely either drinking or doped up on drugs, so he left the scene so they couldn't lock him up. He's just lucky all he did was wreck his car and not kill himself or someone else for that matter. I think a 2 game suspension is the very least he should get out of the matter.

It is just a misdemeanor. There is no evidence he was over the legal limit. I have been out at 3:00 AM before and I have been sober during that time.

Smashing your car and leaving the scene of an accident, usually there is a reason why people run from a scene instead of calling the police. As I said before he's lucky he didn't kill himself or someone else and he deserves whatever he has coming from Goodell.

you can't suspend him for that... goddell's gotta figure that out before he takes it too far... a MISDEMEANOR--- 2 games is 1/8 of the season, if anything you might be able to fine him a small amount of money.

He's the commish, he can suspend him for conduct if he feels its necessary. I have yet to see any solid links to the rumor of the suspension happening but I think if these guys want to break the law then its Goodells right to be able to suspend his players for character issues. I'm just sorry to see so many people defend players for their behavior. Would you still feel the same that he shouldn't be suspended had he hit and killed someone in that accident? I know its not the case, but it was a possibility, so I do hope he gets punished. I know everyone is saying there is no evidence that he was drinking or anything, but what other reason did he have to leave the scene if he was doing nothing wrong?
