We all have been reading David Haugh and others talking up this "Old but good" line that is allegedly the best or among the best. So I was a little underwhelmed to read this:

in the "Chalk Talk" section at ChicagoBears.com, this was reported:

Larry: How does the Bears

I think part of that was that the running game was slow to come on early last year. There were a lot of struggles that I remember. I think part of that was due to defenses having 8 or 9 in the box and daring Rex to beat them.

Once Rex came out hot, the defenses went more to standard fronts and the running game improved.

That being said, I really don't like the lack of depth on the OL. Only Beekman really stands out with our backups, IMO.

Unlike the NBA stat sites I know of, my NFL links are sparse but....it seemed like the Bears had very few runs over 20 yds last year. Seems like many teams had more explosive backs who'd break more long ones (even if it's only a handful over a season). Maybe this year with Wolfe, Peterson and Hester on the offensive side there'll be a couple more bigger runs.

Still, the low yd per carry doesn't look good for a 'running' team.

Grossman started out hot. He didn't really start slow, and even though he was hot our running game struggled to start the season.

That's pretty much what I meant, even though I phrased it poorly. I think after the first few games where Rex looked like a concern for the D, then the running game improved. At least that's what it seemed like.
