If Mike Brown Is Done (For Year/Career)...

Post#1 » by girlygirl » Mon Sep 10, 2007 12:29 am

Although the Bears are describing his injury simply as a knee sprain, Brown broke down in the locker room after the game when talking to reporters...he seems to think the injury is a lot worse and could be career-threatening

If his fears turn out to be true and he's done (for the season, if not forever), how do the Bears adjust? His return (and his play in today's game) seemed to be key...

Well moving Archuletta to strong safety will make him more effective IMO as he's not that great in coverage anyway. Then they move Manning into FS slot and they're still probably deeper at safety than they were last year when Brown went down.

Daniel Manning moves to FS.

Archuleta is better than Chris Harris.

We still have a great defense, but not the same with Mikey back there.

They already play Archuletta at SS though but obviously Manning would step in and be our FS.

"It's another sad day in the chapter of my football-playing career," Brown said. "I don't know what else to tell you guys."

When asked for details about his injury, Brown said, "It's a sprained knee right now. It doesn't look too good.

That's what I thought they were goint to do, but then my friend assured me today that they were playing Brown at SS. I haven't paid enough attention to the Bears this preseason.

At first when I saw the injury, I was just so pissed. But then after watching that interview, I felt real bad for the gay.

This may be it for the guy. It's a shame, he seems like a great guy off the field too. I think he'll end up in coaching, he's got the brains for it.

This guy was so good it appeared as if he was LUCKY, but as one play by play said, "you can't be that lucky, it's the result of lots of hard work, and studying hours and hours of game film".

One of the smartest players I've ever seen. It's a shame, kind of like Gale Sayers, the things they would've done. However they sure made their impact when they did play, and for that their legends will live on.

The bears defense will be fine but with brown in the lineup we could have been one of the greatest of all time

The biggest problem with Brown being injured isn't necessarily his play (although he's a great player). It's that he's one of the captains and leaders on defense. The team gets used to him out there and relies on him to be there, then he's gone. It's more of a mental and morale blow than anything else. I'd say that if he's done for the year (i.e. no hope of playoff run), then the Bears should just part ways. They have to move on.

You might want to hold off on calling Archuleta better than Harris until you see more of him. In my eyes Archuleta & Hillenmeyer are the biggest weak links in our defense. Also Mike Brown is the only starting caliber safety we have so if he is out we are be burnt toast!

Archuleta is 2x the player as Chris Harris.

Archuleta's biggest weakness is his play in coverage.. Well, Chris Harris is just as dreadful in pass coverage as Archuleta. Archuleta is a better tackler, is more physical, and is a much much better blitzer.

I don't even think it's close.

Archuleta is great in run support which is what we were lacking the most when Tommie went down last season. His pass coverage isn't too good though.

As for Mike Brown, you gotta love the guy and his passion for the game but this is it for him. We've got to cut him and look to replace him, either with D. Manning if he can step it up or by spending a high pick on a safety next season. It's obvious what a great safety can do for you in this defense as evidenced by Mike Brown's play, too bad he can't stay healthy though.

Thats your opinion but he definitely isn't 2x the player. I had NFL ticket last yr & watched alot of Archuleta until he got benched. Granted it was a different defense but he was terrible no fluke! Now he is the best safety on our team & I'm not saying that as a compliment! We will soon see what he is made of because he has no where to hide now that Mike Brown is gone. True both Chris Harris & Archuleta are bad in coverage but Harris plays the run just as good with more intensity! If he plays well as our best safety I will give him credit! If coverage was indeed a problem for our former starting safeties why go out & get another one with the same exact problem? DUH!!!

Realistically, we made it through the playoffs and to the Super Bowl without him. Our much more pressing problem is our offense - every stage of our offense. QB,RB,OLINE, ETC. If we don't address that this season, we're not going anywhere.

OUCH! NFL.com just updated their report to say Dvorcek is out with a torn ACL!

On a separate note, I wonder if the NFL will penalize the SD fullback for doing causing Browns injury...

Washington tried using Archuleta as a coverage safety. Knowing all along that he was dreadful against the pass they never adjusted and totally mis-utilized him.

Chris Harris CONSTANTLY whiffed on tackles & went for the big blow way too many times. Chris Harris is no where near as good as Archuleta.
