Not that Bad

Post#1 » by transplant » Mon Sep 10, 2007 10:21 pm

I see a whole lot of Bears fans busting at the seams. Lot of Rex hate and some Cedric hate. Some Turner hate too.

The Bears are a very good team in a not very good conference and a bad division. Keep that in mind.

Brown's injury is sad, but hardly surprising. Angelo stopped counting on Brown 2 years ago. No one's as good, but they have depth there.

If Dvorcek's out for the year, that's bad news, but they have some depth there as well.

Rex didn't have a bad game...he just didn't have a good game. He still completed some passes that (of the Bears' QBs) only he can complete. He throws "big boy" NFL passes and is the best passer we have. He got killed several times, but didn't turn it over except for the interception where Berrian inexplicably quit on the route. Though Berrian claims he did nothing wrong and Rex is admirably avoiding blaming Berrian in the press, the coaches will make it clear to Berrian that what he did isn't acceptable.

Benson blocked inside when the killer rush man was coming from the outside (not Rex's blindside). I'm not sure what they coach Benson to do in those situations, so I won't criticize.

Benson wasn't very impressive against the SD defense. Relax. Last year, Thomas Jones gained less than 60 yards/game in the first 3 games. Not happy about Benson's or Peterson's fumbles...can't have these.

McGowan's "fumble" was a fluke...just a bad break at a horrible time...they happen.

San Diego was 14-2 last season...one of the best offenses and best defenses in the stronger AFC. We actually had 'em for more than a half. The Bears could've won the game, but made some critical mistakes.

They're still a very good team and the NFC is still not very good (anyone see the Saints or the Eagles first games?)

Grossman is either going to be a reasonably consistent and effective NFL QB by week 5 or he's benched. Benson is more of a concern because if he fails, we're kinda screwed. He's a primma-donna and I don't like that about him. If the o-line blocks for him, there's no reason he shouldn't be at least as successful as Jones was last season. He's bigger, stronger and faster. Open a damn hole!

As the season wears on, Olson and Hester should have their moments.

My plan is to bump this thread after week 5. I think my call for patience will be vindicated. If not, I'll still bump it and take my lumps.

Not real sure why Benson is getting a bunch of flak for his performance. True, he fumbled. But San Diego had two All-Pros in their front seven and last year gave up about the same amount of run yd/gm that Chicago did. SD has a very good defense.

Grossman still worries me more than getting the running game on track. Rex's backward pass to Benson and inability to protect the ball with linemen closing in, left me shaking my head.

The Bears lost to a team that had the best record in the NFL at 14-2 last year and were 8-0 at home.
