Tommie out a month

Post#1 » by treyZz » Tue Sep 25, 2007 8:16 pm

Devastating blow to the defense.

We saw what happened last year when he went down.

I just hope they're very cautious with him and he takes as long as needed, because he is due for some big money very soon.

With that said I am almost rooting for a top 5 pick next year. So take your time Tommie.

EDIT: Didn't see the injuries thread even though I posted in it - feel free to merge.

There's only 3 players on the defense who's injuries we can't reasonably overcome:

- Mike Brown
- Brian Urlacher
- Tommie Harris

We're down to one left. Our defense will be mediocre until Tommie gets back especially considering Vasher and Briggs will be fighting those groin injuries all year.

I disagree with Mike Brown's importance.

I would say the importance is more like:
Urlacher
Harris
Briggs
Vasher
Brown

Either way, I haven't looked up tosee what happened with Briggs / Vasher, but we're going to be in deep crap this year.

The order doesn't really matter. What does matter that 4/5 of the best players on this team are nicked up or in Brown's case done for the rest of his career.

But thankfully there's still 13 games to be played. I just hope that they can sweep both the Vikes and the Lions and go 4-4 going into the bye week. We have the Raiders after that and a fairly easy schedule for the second half of the season. 10-6 is still within reach and hopefully we've seen the last of the injury bug for this season.

I agree. This is a severe blow to our team with TH out for almost a month, and as CL put it, Briggs & Vasher not 100%, doesn't bode well in the long run of this season. :(

You think they're going to rush him back when he's due big money really soon? And also he had some knee problems in college. They will take there time with this one.

4 weeks for an MCL is pretty standard.

So we have what? Darwin Walker and Anthony Adams? Eh I can live with that for a while.

I think something like Idonjie and Antonio Garay.

Hey, we're getting back Obafemi in like two games right? That should help out our offense, if not a little.

I always feel the need to preface my posts by saying I'm not that knowledgeable when it comes to football... But we have a starting level defensive lineman in Alex Brown sitting on the bench. Is there a way he can be utilized to make up for the loss of Tommie Harris?

From my knowledge, playing the end posiiton, which Alex does, is incredibly different than playing the DT. Different gap responsbilities, less emphasis on speed vs power and of course, run stopping is bigger than pass rushing. Tommie Harris' job in a nutshell was take the double team and let the other guys around him make the big play(which wasn't always the case because he's just so damn good).

Obafemi doesn't start even when not suspended.

Neither does Garret Wolfe, Mark Bradley, etc...but you don't see people not want them on the field.
