If Rex doesn't get back in as a starter, then the cap money that Angelo must have been reserving for Rex (pretty big dollars I bet) will be available at the end of the year. Would you spend this on offense (ie go after McNabb, Moss or whoever) or resign Briggs?

For me, I'd make a big push for McNabb.

Knowing Angelo he'll play chicken with Briggs for an ego trip and won't sign anybody because of it.

Agreed, but after our Superbowl trip everyone in this organization has had their head explode from too much ego consumption. Angelo is a victim of this and he probably thinks he can replace anyone via the draft.

Briggs or McKnobbers. McKnobbers scares me though. He's injury prone and I hate wrapping a ton of cash in a QB who's injury prone.

My preference, Briggs.

CL, I think according to the Waddle & Silvy show, I heard they say he's a FA after next year (end of the '08 season, when he's 32 yrs old).
I'm not so hell bent now thinking we should go for him. His age is a bit of concern, but if I had to choose, go for him when he's a FA. If you trade for someone on the EAGLES, its the all-pro, do it everything, Brian Westbrook.

As far as a FA coming here...tough one. Anyone have a list who is available (in particular when they're FAs)?

McNabb is locked up through the 2010 season. He's actually under contract through like 2013, but after 2010 the years are voidable with no salary cap hit and his base salary will be high enough that they'd renegotiate then or just cut him.

They could cut him before them (or try to force a renegotiation), but his cap number is pretty managable before that:

2007: $8,835,000 (5.5 mil base salary)
2008: $9,635,000 (6.3 mil base salry)
2009: $9,206,000 (9.2 mil base salary)
2010: $10,006,000 (10 mil base salary)

I'd imagine they'd just keep him around unless his skills degraded tremendously (which is always a possibility that they may consider cutting after 2008).

Cliff Levingston would still let go of Briggs if he's still demanding more money than Urlacher. Not that Lance isn't a great player but you can't tie up that much money in one position especially when you figure to have a pretty good replacement in Williams.

Cliff Levingston would love to see us somehow get a very goos safety to replace Mike Brown. It's obvious what a great safety can do for us in this defense, so if Mike Brown can't stay healthy, we need someone who can play up to or close to his level at FS or SS. Not sure if there are any good free agents that fit this description but Cliff Levingston wouldn't be opposed to drafting one in the first round if a good QB isn't available for us.
