The Future of the Bears

Is this the team that just finished a Superbowl run? I am not sure what is going on, I understand offensive woes, but that is not my concern, because the defense looks atrocious. Peterson is good, but he is not great and should never run against our D for 200 plus yards.

My opinion is some players are hurt and not allowing themselves to heal properly. The first person I look at is Tommie Harris, his knee and hamstring need to rest and he should sit out the season so we can have a 100% Harris next year. Urlacher is hurt, he only had one 5 tackle game in like the last 5 years, he now has 2 this season. Archuletta cannot tackle with a broken hand and also needs to rest.

Urlacher is getting older and that super LB might start to slow down, making it very important to make Lance Briggs a permanent Bear. He is still young and will make the transition from super Urlacher to Urlacher easier and maybe unoticiable.

I like Griese, but he is a 10 year vet and we need some future stability. When I was younger I use to watch all these franchise QBs and wonder why the Bears cannot just get one. Do they even try, because it is ridiculous that Sid Luckman is the best to wear a Bears uniform. The draft has a few arms coming through and the Bears might have a chance because they will be between picks 1-15, they will their schedule is too hard not to be. Who is the guy that will not be a Grossman or a Cade? What about those teams who lose their staring QB only to have a diamond in the rough like Brady or Romo. How many cross their fingers hoping Orton is that guy?

Overall Devin Hester still makes Bears games exciting, I mean he either returns it to the 40 or they don't kick it to him and we are at the 40 and we still struggle to score. It is like here we will spot you some field positioning and you still can't score. I guess I know what it feels like to be a Bulls fan Jordan's rookie season. Watch the excitement and expect a loss. I mean there use to be games that I knew the Bears were going to win, now I am not sure we can take Oakland out. What is most frustrating is the fact that I have seen crappy Bears teams with no talent and losing is understandable, but this team is loaded with talent that is underachieving, which makes it even more frustrating.

Have you bothered to look at his style of play. He doesn't look like a guy who runs through holes and is good at utiliziing his blocks. The guy is a freak who is already heads and shoulders better than the rest of the league. You can just by his style of play that he isn't a come and go RB. He reminds me of a bigger, stronger LT.

Have I bothered to see his style?? He is good but not 200 plus yards good period. The Bears let him get away too often with terrible tackling. He should of had 150 yards or so, but 200 plus, that is a defenses fault most of the time. He is great and that was not the point of my post. It was about the Bears look for an arguement somewhere else.

Cliff Levingston totally disagrees with the comment that the Bears don't try to acquire a franchise QB. McNown and Grossman were both first round draft picks of which the team gave ample opportunity to prove themselves and both were busts. It happens on lots of teams, but it's especially prevalent with the Bears.

The Bears aren't as bad as their record especially considering that the offense is starting to get going. We certainly need some fresh bodies on the offensive line, some more WR talent (though if Hester can make the transition then we're ok) and long-term QB.

The biggest problem with this team right now (other than injuries) is the lack of safeties. Archuleta has been a massive disappointment and simply cannot run the way we need him to. D. Manning is still trying to make the switch from CB (in college) to FS (in the NFL) and hasn't shown that he has the instincts to cut it. McGowan is solid but not a play maker. Without Mike Brown, our safeties are awful and you need that pretty badly in the Cover 2.

We do need to lock up Briggs. Harris may be playing hurt but he's still the best DT we have and we need him out there. No sense in sitting him if he can go cause the NFL offseason is incredibly long.

That's all. Cliff Levingston wants a play maker at Safety more than anything right now.

Cliff is 100% right IMO. I hate seeing AA chinging people around. We raised those concerns about saftey on this board in the preseason, and unfortunately the worst case scenario happend back there.

On the QB front, I think the Bears have made mistakes in their picks by passing up opportunies and trading down in the draft rather than selecting a QB at their spot or trying to move up (can't really say they didnt try - just that they didnt move up) with both Rex & Cade.

Cliff made some really good points! In particular the concerns @ safety & def. the QB situation. The QB is a tricky situation, some of these well known guys come from really good programs, that sometimes it doesn't translate well into a not so good team in the NFL. I think we should look into an overlooked guy in a smaller college or one with not so much exposure (i.e. like Romo, and past good QBs that came from some obscurity)

BTW, LOVIE better get Ricky Manning Jr. out there with more PT.
