1 - Offensive line.
2 - Safety
3 - Firing Ron Turner
4 - RB
5 - QB

If you think we need upgrades at other positions as well, go ahead and rank those too.

1. Offensive line
2. Safety depth
3. Big time WR (Chad Johnson, Randy Moss types)
4. RB to share carries with Cedric. Ced is not a full time RB but when sharing the carries he's good and we could use a burner like TURNER.
5. Healthy DTs.

1. Offensive Line
2. Offensive Line
3. Offensive Line.
4. Safety depth(pending on Mike Brown)
5. OLB (if Briggs leaves) or a good WR
6. A fast change of pace back(I.E Michael Turner)
7. Offensive Line.

I really think the biggest issue with this team is injuries and the offensive line.

Even if Brown decides to play one more season, we definitely need another starting safety, because he's not very reliable.

I'm kind of hoping McGowan/Payne don't get injured next season.

1. Play making safety. This alone would bring the defense back to a near dominant level and allow it to once again carry the team.
2. Offensive line. They're getting old and bad pretty quick. We could probably stand to upgrade every position except center and maybe LT.
3. Offensive coordinator. This is a no brainer.
4. QB. If Rex keeps playing like he has the last two games then maybe not, otherwise we could really use an upgrade.
5. RB. Could really use a guy who can cut back if nothing is there, or a guy who can break some tackles and make things happen on his own.

Really though, all of these are very close in importance.

I really hope one or both of Grossman/Benson look great to finish the season, preferably Grossman. If so we can go into the offseason and address the bigger needs more aptly.

I think the guys stating help in the safety position are just a tad, small, small tad, over reacting.

Mike Brown is awesome, don't get me wrong. Plus having a playmaker at the FS or SS position is key in the cover 2(all up the middle positions, DT or nose/MLB/Safeties, they have to cover the most real-estate on the field).

When Brown is in there the Bears go from a good(use to be) defense to a great defense. However with Urlacher hurt, and as immobile as he has been this year, it has made our safeties look bad. He can usually play in between the LB and safeties because Lance covers so much of the field and Brown(when he was in) can cover most of the backfield, leaving the corners on one on one, or partial zone.

Even when Urlacher was pretty healthy last year, Our d-backs didn't look as bad, especially our safeties. Harris looked good and Manning look solid as well.

Its not fair to blame the safeties when our MLB star player is partially hurt and our two corners have been hurt, sometimes both in the same game.

Please forget about Brown. If your a Cubs fan you know how this goes, except Brown's case is twice as bad. I'm not kidding, twice as bad.

I do agree we are weak in that position, but not as weak as some say.

heres my list:

1. O-line

Our play from the RB and QB position have been pretty poor all year, but the O-line has helped them looked that bad. With a competent O-line we can actually look like a legit offense.

2. Chico

Thats right, Ron Rivera. What a mistake to let this guy go. An ego boost-if you will-for the Bears management and Lovie. This guy is a former Bear great and is part of THE best defense ever. Guys listen to that type of resume. Who the F is Bob Babich? Our defense has lost focus and the blame goes to the trigger-happy celebrator. (remember the SD game?) During that game I thought to myself, "How can he be so happy in just the first game, in the first quarter, during the first series? "

I didn't have a good feeling but I knew we were doomed. I doubt Chico lets the defense slip like this.

3. An offensive playmaker

Whatever, whoever it is, we need someone we can ride on offense. RB, QB, WR any will do. Of course this is after we get a competent line. Whats an offense without blocking?

4. Playcalling

I don't know who to blame. Lovie, Ron, The McCaskey's? I'm not sure if Lovie loves this conservative, field-position, boring football, or if the McCaskey's are ordering their staff(GM and Coach) to preserve the tradition this team has followed. Ron hasn't been the greatest play caller, but I think its out of his hands. I watched him at UofI when my boy Beutjer, QB of my HS team, was their QB. He wasn't as conservative and loved to take chances.

Can I repeat, Bob Babich is a crazy jumping, early-celebrating fool!

we definately need a S--arch needs a big time safety to play with to flourish

either a ss and move arch to rotation/situational guy or a big time fs

i like manning, so the first option would be best IMO

1-O-line (at least 2-and one be a vet)
2-a premier RB, or solid change of pace guy
3-QB--i still believe in rexy, but i would get another QB in a second--lots to chose from this upcoming draft
4-SS

these are the holes---turner is getting close to being out the door, but if we can get the 5 above listed guys, turner will seem much, much better

oline
oline
oline
oline

i want to see more mark bradley... but if moose can do what he did with the seahawks, then im fine except the one catch that hit him in the numbers in double coverage, it was a sick throw i may add...

cedric and wolfe could be a nice duo, wolfe did some pretty crazy things at NIU, especially against Ohio State.

i like rex, and if he continues to improve and plays smarter while being aggressive likes its recess, then i wouldnt go drafting a QB so high

DB's are fine, except they get hit by the injury bug bad, i miss chris harris tho.

cant we go into the draft and draft oline players like crazy and just sign FA's too? hah

1) O-Line
2)new OC, or at least call some more shotgun plays
3)mark bradley
4)O-line
5)DB
6)QB

1. O-Line nuff said
2. QB - We need our franchise.
3. Coaching - Definitely replace Turner, I would probably drop Lovie as well.
4. WR - We need WR's that will actually help the QB more by going after the ball if it is over or under thrown, and not just sitting there while it gets picked off.
5. Secondary - Brown/gone, Archuleta/gone D-Manning/maybe gone,
6. RB - Let's see what Ced can do with a better line and O-Coordinator, but if it's the same, replace him.
7. Ownership - Let's face it, our team is built more around the supposed 'mystique' of 'Bears Football', rather than upon an actual winning tradition. If you really look at our record over the past 50 years, we suck hard. It's time to get some actual live bodies in that position (sorry Viginia, but it's time to lie down).

From an outsider's (Packer fans') perspective:
1-Your O-Line is getting old/shoddy. This game is won in the trenches and your D-Line is solid, but the O-Line had gone down the toilet. You can't run the ball with what you have now.

2-Safety. This is a tough one because Mike Brown is a quality player. If you could rely on him this wouldn't be an issue, but he gets KO'd every year. Even as a Packer fan I felt bad when he broke down in the locker room this year, but it's time that you guys just cut your losses.

3-QB. Grossman is probably the most helter/skelter starter in the league. At the end of '05/beginning of '06 he looked like someone to be wreckoned with but then he'll have one of those stretches where you just hold your breath everytime he cocks his arm back. McNabb might be an option here. Everyone says he's washed up, but he's never had a great WR. Except when he had T.O. And that's when he went to the SB.

mcnabb has problems staying healthy... so if we cut mike brown, why would we sign someone who is more expensive and hasnt played a full season since 4 years ago..

I suppose we can go in order of draft pick. i know things dont work out like this but here

1- LT if we can draft a solid perennial Left tackle, we can move tait to right tackle, get rid of garbage A$$ Fred Miller and this may at least solidify the line

2- Safety- archuletta is the worst NFL player i've ever seen, manning isnt much better. figure out a way to get at least one nfl level safety in

3- DT- our run game is getting killed, cause of loss of tank and dusty. T harris needs some big force to at least absorb some double team, instead tommy is getting doubled and ruining our whole line, the loss of tank is immense

4-WR's benson should be ok with a decent line, but our wr's are suck. the bears offense, the line cant hold their own so gross man has to make rush decisions, becuase our wr's are too slow to break immediate coverage bad things happen, if either the line was better or receivers could beat their man we'd be ok

5- RB, i'm not giving up on benson yet, but he needs to be part of a tandom with somenoe. Perferabely get someone a lil faster, and benson and new rb can share the load

6- OG we need to replace reuben brown with someone like him of 2/3 years ago

7 QB this is the last thing i feel we need for now, grossman can still function but hes not the worse problem, you solve all the other 6 problems grossman will be almost as good as anyone we can put in the defense.

All these moves would at least put us back in contention, we'd be no patriots but its a start
