Benson out for the year

Post#1 » by SportsWorld » Mon Nov 26, 2007 9:39 pm

Well thank God we still have Thomas Jones.....oh crap.

Cedric Benson is out for the season, Bears coach Lovie Smith confirmed Monday afternoon, though the coach wouldn't specify which part of Benson's left ankle or leg is injured.

Benson was injured in the first half of Sunday's overtime victory over the Broncos and will have to undergo surgery, Smith said. Benson was expected to have his ankle examined Monday.

With Benson gone, Adrian Peterson is likely to step up at the featured back. It's unclear if the Bears will look outside for help.

Samkon Gado was released by the Dolphins a few hours ago to make room for Ricky Williams. I could see Angelo signing him.

It will only help when AP runs 17 times for 45 yards every week from here on out. Then people will realize that Benson's woes were mostly a BRUTAL Oline.

Now do the Bears draft McFadden, or Hart, or Stewart.

If the AP and Wolfe run well the Bears probably won't address the RB position. Metcalf and St. Clair look alot better than Brown and Miller too.

Now the offense can be opened up and should make for some interesting play calling with at on of quick hitters trying to get the backs outside .

Bad news, he was just starting to play well with his 136 yards on 19 carries in the past 2 games.

Oh well...

You all are wrong! Ron Turner's going to do more reverse WR rush plays, designed for Hester/Moose/Berrian, so we can see some negative rush yards.

Or that just means they both suck ass. Two words: Walter Payton. Played behind subpar lines for most of his career. Didn't seem to phase him at all. Although it did account for his running style (start right, stop, sweep left, sprint for daylight).

Cedric Benson will never live up to the standards of a Walter Payton, Gale Sayers, or even Neal Anderson. He was a fine RB in Texas...but this is the NFL. You prove your worth, or, you're gone. RB's careers are usually short(so there's little time to daly).

Plus, I do recall Benson playing against Seattle in the playoffs, and still came up with shoddy numbers. So, the O-Line isn't a good enough excuse.

Sayonara, Cedric...it hasn't been fun.

God I hope not, but, you can never tell with this team. The management often makes some truly questionable decisions in the off-season. And the result is usually no playoffs, or a no show in the playoffs.

I don't think any running back can be successful behind this offensive line... I think Benson will be alright.... I think the only reason Turner is successful is because of the change of pace he brings in the SD offense when LT takes a rest.

Yes. and I think he will come into camp in shape and ready to get 25 carries a game. Thats what he wanted this year but even in the San Diego game it was obvious he was getting winded quickly.

So who is our 3rd string RB now? I suggested Angelo going after Samkon Gado who was just released by the Dolphins last week but I guess we are going with 2 running backs.

EDIT: Samkon was resigned by the Dolphins yesterday.
