What do you think? If Mike Brown came back healthy...?

Post#1 » by emperorjones » Fri Nov 30, 2007 10:12 pm

Looking at Adam "jumped the shark" Archuleta, I have to say if Mike Brown comes back healthy I would sign him again without question. He could probably play better that #20 on one knee right now. This would not stop me from drafting a Safety #1 or #2, but I certainly would bring MB back.

I agree with you EJ, he'd have to be better than Adam Archuletta, but definitely finding a safety is one of the high priorities. We as the Bears fans have to face it, that Adam only came to Chicago out of Lovie's infatuation with him from his St. Louis days. :nonono: This is one of my few knocks on Smith. Back to Mike Brown, if anything, I think he could play a good backup and help educate a young (maybe a rookie) safety on how to make good reads. I honestly see Mike Brown being an instructor and moving up if we kept him around.

Only to a small one year deal.

So the Cubs should make Prior and Wood their number 1/2 starters.

C'mon boys, Mike Brown has been injured four years in a row.

I love him to death, but hes done as a Bear. One year, maybe, but I would still replace him in the starting lineup. Too bad Arch never panned out.

I really would love him back, but we definitely need to be ready so we'd be in better shape if (when) he goes down again. If he comes back healthy, I still think he'd be one of the top safeties in the NFL, but unfortunately just for a few games.

Hub Arkush made a good point on the Score that we already have the guy signed to an affordable contract, so there's really no need to cut him right away. If he came to camp and couldn't perform, then you cut him.

What the Bears *do* need to do though (aside from launching Archuleta) is have a strong backup for when Brown gets injured again.

Can't rely on him being the backbone of this secondary year after year, because it's hurt the Bears year after year.

One year deal, nothing more, with a very capable back-up waiting, and he CAN'T be the #1 safety on the depth chart, not anymore.

He's still signed to a deal.

If it's not going to hinder the salary cap then you might as well keep him and hope he can perform, just make sure you've got a good backup for him.

Like Rex, we needed a good backup for the longest time. We finally got one (last year) and Rex was healthy all year en route to the super bowl. Hopefully we can somewhat replicate that with Brown.

Sort of/Semi Off topic:

Lorenzo Neal (we remember him and his horse collar tackle of Mike Brown back on 9/9/07, 3rd Quarter), will be out indefinitely by fracturing his right fibula. It seems as if Fate or Karma is not without a sense of irony.

Nah, I heard Neal felt really bad about it and even called Mike Brown afterwards to apologize.

Brown's value to this defense is immense. When he's in and healthy the defense looks unreal and terrifying, when he's out, we're pedestrian (or worse when we lose another player on top of it).

See him in camp and use him. Get a good back up in case.
