Offseason Thread

I think we need a general Offseason thread so we don't have to keep starting new ones.
First question...Should the Bears go after DeShaun Foster?

Yeah, let's have one offseason thread for random thoughts about potential signings and trades. If a trade or signing breaks we can always make a separate thread.

Javon Walker might be traded from Denver. I say get this guy in a Bears uniform. He is still young, fast, and just what the Bears need. If Berrian is gone I think he would be a good option.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw the wiretap headline. If Berrian doesn't resign he should be on our radar.

I like Walker, although I don't quite know what we would trade to get him.

That's just it. I don't know what Denver wants for him. You really can't compare him to the Moss trade because Moss had a ridiculous contract. But if the Bears can get him for one of their 3rd round picks I say do it. Then trade down in the first round, pick up a left tackle in the 1st and then a QB and RB in the 2nd and 3rd and another OLineman and a S/DT with the extra pick we get from the trade down.
Wishful thinking.

I take that back. The Broncos traded a 2nd round pick for him so I imagine that is probably what they will want in return. But who knows.

Does anyone know how much cap money the Bears have saved with their recent cuts?

According to a different site's message board, here is the Bears updated Salary Cap info.
TOTAL $89,023,499
LBTE's not earned $1,700,000
Unamortized cap hits $5,100,000
salary cap $116,000,000
Room left $23.57 mill

Looks like all the money saved is just going to go towards franchising Berrian.

.
ESPN's John Clayton suggests that the Bears' flurry of Monday cuts is a "strong" sign that they're planning to franchise Bernard Berrian. We'll know for sure tomorrow. The three cuts saved $10.4 million in cap room and it'd cost $7.848 million to tag Berrian. Berrian, a two-year starter, hasn't topped 1000+ yards in a season yet, but that can be attributed to poor QB play. He only recently turned 27 and is Chicago's best weapon on offense.
Source: ESPN Insider
That'll leave around $24M left in available cap space.
Why haven't the Bears cut players like Ricky Manning Jr. and Adam Archuleta yet? It's not like it would hurt the Bears depth chart all that much, those guys are pretty useless as it is, with maybe the exception of special teams use.

As much as I hate overpaying for Berrian if we get rid of him who would be our #1 WR? Are there any good WR in Free Agency this year?

Berrian is probably the best FA out there. If the Bears do franchise Berrian I highly doubt we see him in a Bears uniform for any more than this season. Pave the way for a WR they draft I guess.
This sucks.

I liked Muhammed, I think they're taking a step backward.

DJ Hackett is out there and I think the Bears could get him much cheaper than Berrian. To tell you the truth, I think that if the Bears franchised Berrian and spent another couple million on Hackett the WR corps would be in pretty good shape.

I don't think Ruben Brown was cut, he was a FA. It's just clear that the Bears aren't going to try to resign him.
