With FAVRE done, what does that mean for the BEARS

Favre has announced to retire, at least for now, according to ESPN's Mike & Mike.
It wouldn't shock me if he changes his mind. But what does that mean for our BEARS...Do we get back to where we were? Discuss!

It means the Packers still have a better QB than the Bears.

It means that one of the NFL's charter franchises STILL has never had a franchise quarterback.
So really, it means nothing. Green Bay and Minny and Detroit will all have franchise QB's before we do.

He was a good QB. But I am glad he retired.

Has anyone in Illinois thrown a blockbuster party yet? Or rioted in happiness? Not being sarcastic, but Favre is so hated in Illinois when there was a vote for enemy of the state 4 years ago, the people there took Bartman on the list & put Favre no.1 instead. About motherbleeping time, i'm tired of Favre & his offseason antics.
The time he really shoulda retired was after the monday night game vs. Baltimore where the Packers defense made Kyle Boller look like Favre in his prime & the Ravens defense made Favre look like Kyle Boller.

See, I'm not looking at it like this.
Initially, I'm looking at our Management more so than the players. If the BEARS manage to capture the NFC North again with little done this offseason (i.e. signings and average draft picks), the media will paint Angelo et al as being geniuses. And to be quite honest, I would really despise that and be very pessimistic (and this coming from probably the biggest Chicago Homer). My fear as a BEARS fan is that Angelo, Lovie, Phillips, and McCaskey get complacent (& super Cheap) to really upgrade our team.
And Yes, I agree with you Ruben & blu, its despicable that the NFL's charter franchise has yet to get a good or great QB. And yes, I don't know if the Packers necessarily fall that far in the division. They still have a defense, a decent running game in Ryan Grant, an O-Line, and if Rodgers doesn't make too many mistakes, they're going to be tough again.
The Vikes don't scare me until they can prove their QB can beat teams and play in some Chicagoan Weather. Adrian Peterson will be scouted better than he was in his rookie year, and I'm sure defenses will be primed to stop him in his 2nd year. Playing Zone against them will force Tavaris to make plays by himself, if not by Peterson. Berrian won't get open in that type of coverage.
The Lions...Another indoor playing team, doesn't scare me either, but they beat our BEARS twice. I think it was just a fluke year.

Let's not feed the troll, gents. I think the Bears record vs the Pack last year said it all.

ok, if this is going to incite trolling then this thread should be locked. Packer fans, if you're going to come in and make worthless post, then do it on your own board. Coming in here, and posting worthless drivel shows you for what you are.

Wow Packer fans a little bitter about the retirement?
This is a sad day in the NFL. Although I'm a die-hard Bears fan, Brett Favre was my favorite football players ever, and I'm not ashamed to say that.
I loved how the rivalry could've been renewed last year and today I'm sad that we'll never be able to see him play.
If the most legendary Bear of all time retired today I'd be on the Bears board talking about how great that player was, rather than talking smack on the Packer board.
Shows you that posters like ahagen87, among others that will come over and talk smack, have lived less years than Favre has been in the NFL. Therfor never knowing the true significance of Brett Favre to the Packers, and to the NFL.
Good Luck to your Packers ahagen87.

Yeah I don't know why a fellow Packer fan feels the need to come over here and troll.
We've had a fantastic long run with one of the NFL's all-time greats and now it's time to move on. Rodgers has shown some flashes in his very limited time. Some teams get lucky when replacing a legend (Montana/Young) but most don't. We had a long 20 years between Starr and Favre and Bears fans certainly know how hard it is to find a good QB.

and one of the worst days ever but hey you guys will always SUCK so to that i say:
BEARS SUCK!!!! AND FAVRE IS THE BEST QUARTERBACK OF ALL TIME!!!!

Um. I wasn't going to comment, but you came over here and said it. I hope by "one of the worst day ever" you meant it in a relative sense. But living in WI my whole life I can safely assume that you are dead serious when you wrote that. I think it's sad statement on society that a football player carries that much weight in people's lives. It's a game that brings joy to people, I will not question that. But when a player retires being considered one of the worst days in a persons life is disappointing to me.

Rodgers has had plenty of time to sit and watch one of the best ever go at it. Cliff Levingston wouldn't be surprised if the drop-off from Favre to Rodgers isn't all that far.
But we can hope it is.

Packers FANS are absolute morons, no doubt.

However, I don't see how you can HATE Favre. He's the quarterback that we would have loved to have. Exciting, a leader, durable in a cold weather city, blue collar type. To say you hate Favre is kinda silly IMO. What you really hate is the fact that the Bears' regime has been unable or unwilling to find us a franchise QB. That some small market team found and won with a Hall of Fame QB and we didn't. That team also happens to be our oldest rivals on top of that.
So, don't hate Favre, hate the McCaskey's - because in the end, they have been the only common denominator in our losing ways.

Well, this was certainly unexpected when I woke up this morning, I thought for sure he'd be back.
It means very little for the Bears, it just means that now the division isn't a lock for the Packers anymore, but is by no means a Bears division. I mean, have you seen this team?
Thinking of everything Favre has done in his career, especially to the Bears, just makes me shake my head in a combination of disgust and awe. He's been an unbelievable player on the Bears' biggest rival, and Bear-Packer games will never, NEVER be the same again.
Take it easy, #4.
