No, he wasn't a bust in San Fran. Plus, I would follow some of the Redskins game, I think he just wasn't given a real chance. I think its a low-risk and probably high reward situation for the BEARS. I think this is good. If he's trying to put himself back on the WR-Map, he'll have to do it with Rex, Kyle, or Drafted 2008 QB. Plus, he's a WR that can go across the middle to get a catch in tough spots, make spectacular grabs (like the one BB had vs. the broncos this past year), and he's quick. I'm not going to give Angelo a lot of props, but a good idea by bringing him in, now, not putting a lot of pressure on Hester and Bradley.

I agree with NLK, hopefully if he has the desire he will be given a chance to try and make something of himself. This is the type of signing I was expecting. Bradley if health will be the slot guy and hopefully Hester and Olsen are used more. So now we know we are going OL or RB in the 1st.

I had him on my fantasy team a few years back as a 5ht receiver. I never really played him, but I do remember him making some awfully difficult catches year in and year out.

Let's hope he can do that here, cause God knows he'll have plenty opportunities to make tough catches.

Hmmn, I'm finding it a bit hard to get excited about this, given he's an underachiever who barely played the last two years after being traded for. Here's to making the most of one last opportunity. Maybe it pays off.

going across the middle is exactly what he doesn't do. fortunately the bears signed booker to do that, and lloyd to be the deep threat. basically we signed a poor-man's muhammed and a poor-man's berrian, jettisoning the real things.

nonetheless, this is a signing with no downside. lloyd may well have been held down in washington by crummy QBs and attitude - gibbs is much more old-school than Lovie - maybe the bears will catch lightning in a bottle.

I agree with everything you said, but I think Booker can be better than what Muhammad gave us last year. 556 yards looks pretty good on a 1-15 team with no quarterback. But we are basically an 8-8 team with no quarterback though .

We signed Lloyd to a one year deal for the league minimum.

For his talent level, I'm very happy to have done that. Will he work out as a #1 or #2 WR, probably not. He's getting paid like a #5/#6 guy who could be cut with no cap consequence.

He doesn't negatively effect our ability to sign other players and now gives us some decent depth at WR. We're going to have a big camp battle to see who comes out.

He'll probably be motivated due to his contract, it's basically a trial to save his NFL career.

I know I'm a moronic broken record with this, but WR is the position most reliant on the rest of the offensive talent. We don't have other good offensive talent. I'd rather go cheap on WRs and try and up the rest of the talent of the team.

Apparently we're the dumping ground for the Redskins' crap - first Archuleta and now Lloyd.

In all seriousness, another low risk/low cost move that could end up working out. Why not ?

My guess is we are hoping for Clady or Williams and if they are both gone we go with Mendenhall.

I want Mendenhall more and more in the 1st round. Scouts actually are liking him more than Darren McFadden so far. But I doubt Angelo goes RB in the first round and will end up going OL.

The only scenario I see us going WR is if we trade down for a couple more picks(for example, if we get Dallas' two pick(doubt it). I can see us going, Sweed/Albert.)

I like this signing. It is very low risk, and he could bring out some real talent with being reunited with Ron Turner.

Actually i'm not that thrilled about this signing. Along with re-signing Booker(five years too late) it just adds yet another mediocre player to the WR core (none of which are outstanding). I hope the draft is alot more exciting than free agency. Because my overall reaction, not impressed...still 7-9 at best.

I'm not sure, SW. I'm thinking more and more that Angelo is thinking running back for the first pick and an OL later for rounds 2-3.

This is a deep draft for OL, so the drop off from the top O-linemen isn't very far off.

However the drop off for RB is steep after the first round-late second talent.

There is McFadden who will go early and then the rest. Mendenhall, Chris Johnson, Felix Jones and John Stewart. After that the drop is a steep hill.

Those RB won't go past the early 2nd round. The worst of the bunch, Chris Johnson, is the fastest, so at this time(combine-prospect evaluation), his 40 time(fastest of all running backs) is looking real sexy.

Mendenhall didn't have a bad time, it was actually excellent, a 4.4something rather, but Johnson's and McFadden's 4.2's dwarf that time.

Teams with picks ahead of us are the Ravens, Bengals, Saints, Bills, Broncos, and Panthers.

The Ravens have McGahee, Bengals need defense bad, Saints have RB(unless they plan to move Bush to WR), Bills are ok with their RB, and the Broncos never have a stud RB(they usually rely and give credit to their OL for the running game). The Panthers have have D. Foster and they just used a recent pick on DeAngelo Williams.

It could be very likely that Mendenhall is there for the Bears, and then it would be really tough to pass up a talent like that with Benson and Petersen as your 1-2 punch.

Mendenhall is the prototypical body we need for running back, nice and bulky, and his style is perfect. Hes a pretty quick running back more so than he is fast. His open-field breakout speed won't wow anybody, but in the NFL you need more quick and less fast. Not that his speed is below NFL standards, but his quickness for his size is surprising.

Mendenhall and McFadden are obviously 1,2. Then a veryslight drop off to Felix Jones, Stewart, and Johnson.

The latter three aren't worth an early pick to suffer a little on O, but the first two definitely are. Mendenhall might be the RB to bring this team back.

So, how do our WR's look now?

- Hester
- Bradley
- Davis
- Booker
- Lloyd

Who's the #1 and #2 out of the group? Cliff Levingston seriously has no idea, but is still with Doug in that WR is the least important offensive position for the Bears right now.
