According to ESPN 1000, the Bears will swap their 3rd round pick with San Francisco also. The Bears will now have their 7th pick, while the 49ers will have the Bear's 12th pick.

Sweet deal, especially since we still have Briggs. I think we can pick up a tackle like Sam Baker with that pick too.

Now, do the Bears get that pick, or is it just eliminated from the draft?

That's probably a stupid question, but I'm a stupid man

No, I believe it's like the Patriots 31st pick. It will just be skipped.

This would matter more if the Bears actually picked players where they were slotted. Seeing as they usually reach for guys they probably could've gotten a round or two later....no effect.

I think it would have been huge if we swapped our second round picks. But the talent in the third round is pretty average, and I think we'll get the same player we targeted at 12 as we get at 7.

The extra pick always helps

We don't get an extra pick. They lose a 5th round pick.

It's better than a kick in the nuts, but I doubt it makes any tangible difference. By the 3rd round the draft boards are probably different enough that we're not going to get a different player. Still it could hold more value to a team looking to trade up.

It would have been nice if the 5th pick had come to us. I wonder if Briggs' public stance was taken in part because he was already negotiating with the 49ers and felt he had a big contract done?

I was really suprised when Briggs had no suitors this offseason
