I know we need some help at WR, so I was wondering if anyone has mentioned Bengals reciever Chad Johnson? We could certainly use someone with his skills in the lineup. What do you guys think? Do you want him? If so, can we get him?

You don't give up first round picks for hardly anyone, nor would we probably have to in this case. Cliff Levingston would offer our 2nd and 4th round picks for him considering he basically solves our WR problem altogether. Then we'd still have our first and 2 3rds to sufficiently address (hopefully) the O line and maybe RB.

Chad isn't a franchise player, hes good, maybe great, but not a franchise player.

There are several analysts that will say giving up a first rounder for sure thing is automatic, but with Chad's ego distractions, thats enough to tip the scales.

If this team didn't want to pay Berrian, what makes you think they'll pay chad johnson? Seriously, the chance of that happening is low. Johnson wants to go to a playoff contender. You can't be a playoff contender with holes at OT, OG, RB, WR, QB. one man doesn't solve the problem here. And the Bears aren't a team that throws money around.

Chad is a legit #1, and one of the best in the league at that. Berrian is a #2 guy.

We're one year removed from the superbowl, and last year, our defense was decimated by injuries. If we get a stud tackle and perhaps another guard in the draft, it's not unreasonable to think we can make it back to the playoffs in a crappy NFC. The only thing Chad should worry about is our QB situation.

he loves football and plays w/ alot of desire to win and passion

the SB core is still here (with olsen now)-----i would take chad and lock him up 5-6yrs

I don't want him for any price.

I doubt he'd shine at all on this QB-deficient team. He'd be wise to tell his agent to keep the Bears off his list altogether.

No matter what we'd offer the Bengals to acquire him, what good would it do if we don't have a run game (which allow Defenses to scheme Zone-D all over us, clogging any passing attempts) and more importantly an O-line to block those bloody LBs, DEs, DTs, occasional Safeties/CB blitzes.

Yeah dude if I was Chad Johnson I would stay the hell away from the Bears. The guy doesn't want Carson Palmer throwing to him, I don't think he'll want Kyle Orton/Rex Grossman.

On the other hand, I love the guy. I wear his number and his antics, I even wear the number but I just don't see the Bears management trading assets to get him especially since he's just kind of viewed a negative attention/locker room influence.

The team was unwilling to pay a mediocre receiver. Why would they pay Chad? When was the last time we had an elite receiver? Chad Johnson will never be a Bear, write it down if you must.

As far as fixing the problem goes, I think you give management way too much credit. We can't put this thing back together with some band aids and hope for the best. We need solid pieces on both offense and defense. Considering management's decisions through past drafts, that's not going to be as easy as some think.

The defense didn't take a step back because of injuries. The world saw how to beat down the Bears on national television. Indianapolis showed everyone how to smack us around and the league followed. Injury did contribute to the problem but it wasn't the cause. Players are supposed to step up when the starters fall. It's the only opportunity the 2nd string usually gets (their chance to shine). You can't call this an elite defense, then use injuries as an excuse for the team falling off the top of the mountain. A great defense usually has depth. This isn't a great defense.
