Oh brother the ESPN guys are struggling to find something to say about Monk. Ouch.
Either they have nothing on him, or they just can't wait to get up and leave.

Monk has the size which I like. He also had a 4.42 40.
Strengths:
Has excellent size and a large frame...Long arms...Very athletic and smooth...Big, reliable hands...Good ball skills and body control...Excellent leaper...Knows how to use his frame...Is strong and tough...Very smart...Can be a terror in the red zone.
Weaknesses:
Doesn't have top game speed...Will have trouble separating from pro corners..Not very quick or explosive and lacks a burst..Needs to improve as a route runner...He offers very little after the catch..Is not a big play threat and won't stretch the field vertically..Questionable motor / effort...Not much of a blocker...Durability concerns.
Notes:
The valedictorian of his high school class...Was also a great basketball player as a prep and could have seen action on the hardwood for the Razorbacks...Burst onto the scene as a true freshman but was never able to regain that initial magic...Has battled shoulder and knee injuries...You have to like some of the physical tools he brings to the table....Lack of speed & injuries figure to hold him back on Draft Day.

Well - jeez - Monk is 6'4" 1/4 and has 4.41 speed. Why the hell not?

We picked a lot of guys who had big injuries and hurt their stock because of it, Monk is one of them.
Just the fact that his name is MONK and he's a receiver, I'll take him.

Monk isn't a nobody.This is a guy that was looking at 2nd or 3rd round before injury.Could be a Marques Colston esque pick for the Bears

Yeah I like Monk a lot.....
And after talking about everything except what was happening with the draft for hours today they stopped for Monk specifically, ran his highlight reel, and talked him up somewhat so he is pretty well known.

Yeah surprised there are only 6 posts about this guy, I actually think this might be our best value pick. With how sh^++y our WR core has been there is no reason this guy cant be a productive 4th receiver.
I actually think both our WR could contribute this yr, at least Bennett should.

We keep Hester, Booker, Bradley, Davis, Bennett, and Monk IMO but I could see Lovie try to do his usual "redshirt year" for Monk and IR him and put Hass or Lloyd into that 6th receiver spot.
From everything I've been reading, Monk looks like a 7th rd steal.

Booker, Bradley, Hester, Davis, Lloyd, Bennett as the top 6. Monk on the Practice Squad. Bye bye Hass and Rideau. If someone ends up on the IR, bump up accordingly.
If Monk plays out of his mind and absolutley deserves a roster spot (unlikely), cut Lloyd or trade Bradley/Davis.

cut them and Monk can "redshirt". While Lloyd sucks he has at least done something in the league unlike Hass, Bradley and Rideau.

I like Monk but he makes Mike Brown seem like Cal Ripken in terms of durability. He cannot take a hit and it shows in his effort on high throws, which is an issue for tall WRs. If he gets healthy and plays without fear of getting hurt, the Beras have themselves a 50-catch, 700-yard, 6 TD guy. Huge ifs though...
Kirk Barton should not make an NFL roster. I say this as a Buckeye lifer and someone who gets paid (very little) to evaluate linemen. If he loses 15-20 pounds and takes some ballet classes so his feet actually leave the ground, he might make it as a reserve interior OL. You put him at tackle and your QB is on IR within 10 throws.

I like Marcus Monk but I worry about his ability to see the field on a team filled with a bunch of mediocre talent. We'll see though.

I guess any 7th rounder is going to come with some caveats. Thanks for the info. With that speed/size, he looks worthy of a late round pick.

Wouldn't go that far yet about the durability thing.
He only had problems after his Junior year.Mike Brown however had injury concerns coming out of College,and even today still has injury concerns.
With his size however I do feel that he should be more physical than what Reports say about him.
I am praying that he gets healthy at this point though.If that knee gets better the Bears will have themselves a serious threat at WR.One that wouldn't make the rest of our mediocre WR's core look so bad.

I see a lot of people saying the same thing about the Marcus Monk pick - a potential steal. And if he does absolutely nothing, no biggie. He was picked 248th.

I agree. Being in Australia, I don't really get to watch much football, especially on the college level, so I don't know a great deal about the players we picked other than what I have read in scouting reports and what you guys have to say. Still, I'm starting to like the Monk pick. He has size and speed, which is a great starting point for a WR. Sure he has his problems, but if he can develop into a halfway decent reciever, he'll be a steal considering where we drafted him.
