Interesting move. I wonder what happens if he really does get injured? It's not like he'll cost us anything anymore.

i love MB, but its so dam hard to believe again that he will stay healthy
ive been let down too many times
if he plays 1/2 the season, he will ensure that we have a couple more wins; so here's to hoping

I can't help but think these past injuries were just flukes and not necessarily a sign that Brown is any more injury-prone than the next guy (despite the evidence to the contrary). Glad to see we're giving him another shot - he's a true leader on the field and in the locker room when healthy.

Brown is my favorite Bears player on defense, and he is a great person off the field. I wish the best for him and his health.

If you think about it, MB is really only in his 6th season or so having missed 43 games. Should I hope for some production this year or just pretend he isn't actually on the team?

The thing with Brown is the explosiveness. By having him play FS he is the end of the line keep safe. He is the last line of defense, and he does it so well because he could go sideline to sideline so efficiently by making fantastic reads and going the best angle. Although he doesn't lose his read making ability or his angles, he loses that explosiveness after so many injuries to his legs.
Thats why the Bears have moved him to SS, but that position on the Bears is the easier position to replace because most of the responsibilities for that POS are reading the running game and attacking the line.
When Brown played FS, he could shade the SS, but still get back to play FS if needed, which made guys like Kevin Payne, Daniel Manning, and Chris Harris look real good.
I think the main reason Chris Harris blew up in CAR is because of the coaching of Brown after Mike was injured in the 06(?) season.
I like this restructing, but I think it shows you how bad Mike wants to make a difference. I don't think the Bears would've kept him at two and half million. Even if he is injured and doesn't collect on the incentives he'll be a great coach on the sidelines.
